Cute new babys, with not so cute lice....

Its almost time for our two new girls to move up to the big house and get out of quarantine but I noticed they had been scratching alot so while I was doing lap time today I gave there skin a look over and they have lice. Tiny little pale yellow bugs thank god one of the girls has a black spot around her rump I dont think I would of spotted them anywhere else the girls are texels so there hair is crazy. My husband is going to pick up some Advantage on his way home from work this afternoon so we can treat them but there so tiny I'm scared I'll mess up the doseage. Pompom is 13 ounces and Tingting is 12 ounces. If any math wiz wants to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Now I'm going to go scratch my head and shudder for about an hour cause I'm a hair dresser and lice scare the day lights out of me lol.

Animal lice can't be transferred to people. Not so sure on dosage for the meds.

I had the same dosage problem with ivermectin and I checked on the guinea lynx forum and website. They helped me a ton really quick. I know they have info on Advantage under the parasites section about lice and under the medications section. I hope I helped even a little.

I used this dose calculator when I used revolution on my baby... http://www.guinealynx.info/dose_calc...html#calculate

It's great! Just pick the medication, type in the weight, & click "calculate dose" and you're set!

Re: Cute new babys, with not so cute lice....

Thanks for all the links that guinealynx dose calculater is wonderfull! I treated them with the advantage and have already noticed a huge drop in scratching so I think there feeling better. Makes me really glad I resisted the urge to let the big pigs meet the babys before quarantine was over, altho I did go ahead and treat the big pigs too just to be on the safe side.

Re: Cute new babys, with not so cute lice....

Update sorta, with a question. It's been a couple days since treating all the piggys with Advantage and after doing a fur and scalp inspection I'm happy to report zero live bugs on any of them yay, but I could see what I think are tiny eggs attached to the hair shafts. I was wondering since Advantage is supposed to last for 30days will they need another treatment at the end of the 30days or will it kill the eggs also?

Re: Cute new babys, with not so cute lice....

Well, like I said earlier, I used Revolution (it lasts 30 days also) and was told that it will kill the lice that come from the eggs I found. I believe they hatch in like 3 weeks...from what I recall. I would think Advantage would work the same way.

I asked the same question after I applied Revolution and found eggs :)

Re: Cute new babys, with not so cute lice....

Hi Piper, glad your piggies are doing well - was wondering how much the Advantage cost? I went to the vet's office inside PetSmart today to get some and it was $79.95!!

Is there another place to buy it besides vet's offices? Thanks!
