Flash had a impacted poo on Thurs. It was just a little bigger than a regular poo, misshapen and hard and it popped right out. On Saturday he started not eating. I have been hand feeding him pellet mash. He is having labored breathing. My appointment is today at 3. I would have taken him yesterday but the exotic vet wasn't in until today. He is in teleconfrence all morning and this was the first appointment.

Someone please tell of a simular circumstance that turned out ok. I am so upset. This is my Flash my therapy pig. He is such a gentle soul and he is so sick. Is there something else I could be doing until then? He does fight me when I am giving him mash so I know he hasn't given up.

He is spending the night at the vet. They took an xray and there was so much fluid around his heart they couldn't see much. They are going to give him medicine to drain the fluid. It is likely that he is in congestive heart failure. I will know more tomorrow.

He has congestive heart failure. We are giving him medicine to keep the fluid drained. He is happy to be home and see the other pigs. I am keeping him separate because he is weak. He ate some lettuce and a bite of carrot yesterday. He hasn't eaten yet today.
The doctor said this is all we can really do and he may be fine. I just can't tell yet. He is depressed and wants to be in with the girls(he's neutered). I put him in for a few minutes but can't leave him in. They are already showing signs that they want to be dominate over him.

I recently lost an old girl to heart failure. You can read her story from start to finish in the Medical forum. From my understanding, sometimes they do very well and sometimes there isn’t much that will help, except to get them comfortable enough to add a little quality time to their life.

I didn’t separate my pig because her symptoms started after she lost her long time companion and she was definitely in charge of the two new pigs. But, I do think their “activity” added to her stress. It’s hard to say, and you need to do what you feel is right.

Assuming your guy is on Lasix now, you should see an improvement in a couple days. Does your vet have a plan of action after that?

He is researching a new heart medicine. He wants to make sure it is the right thing before he gives it to us.
Flash has been up and down all day. He did take a few bites of carrot and drank some water. I gave him a little pellet mush.
He walked over to his water bottle and had to lay down when he got there. Poor guy.
I am letting him visit the girls but can't leave him in there until he is walking better. He takes a few steps and lays down. I pulled Teddy out today and had them both in my lap. He liked the company but gets completely worn out.
