Recently I noticed something kind of irregular about one of my cavies eyes. Not anything medically wrong like a disease, I mean when the way she looks and responds to movement. When booger, Gertrude and Heidi are anxious or scared by something, or sometimes it seems just because. They "bug" their eyes out a little. Heidi and booger eyes respond the same way, if I pick them up they appear to be looking at me. The Pupil is toward the nose and the white of the eye is seen on the back of the eye. But Gertrude is the opposite, She looks like she is trying to see her back side and the white is really noticable in the front toward the nose. It kind of makes me think she is cross-eyed. Is that possible for a cavy? I know she isnt blind because she can follow and react to just movement. but when it comes to looking at where the movement is coming from she acts kind of like a bird. She will only look out toward one side of her head Where as the other two look toward where the movement came from. Is this normal? |

I think all pigs have the tendency to go "cross eyed," since their eyes are on the sides of their head. Milo was always boggle-eyed as a young pig. He's not so bad any more, but sometimes he and my other two still have eyes that go every which direction. ![]() |

When my Root Beer was younger, she had eyes that always seemed to bug out a lot more than my others, and her eyes were crossed eyed just like in the picture above. She's STILL like this, just not as bad. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Yes it is normal. When my pigs where born and I picked them up(not instantly) they were freaked out and bulged their eyes out and seemed cross eyed. |
