Cleaning Boars 'areas'

I have two males and have read up on cleaning their male parts so they dont get impacted. They are currently 1 1/2 and 4 months and I do not smell anything foul or see any problems. Is it necessary to use mineral oil and clean them out even when they dont have problems? Is it a preventive measure? Can I just wait until they are older and start to actually have problems. They still dont trust us that much and I dont want to stress them out more than necessary. Thanks!

Re: Cleaning Boars 'areas'

I clean my guys parts once a week. That way if they ever do have problems, they'll be used to the routine. It is a preventative measure, and it isn't necessary now, but may help you down the road.

If you do it, you might consider grape seed oil instead of mineral oil. Mineral oil stains and is generally just gross but the grape seed oil is lighter and washes out of your clothes (because trust me, you'll spill it) easier.

I do monthly clean outs, or as needed. You'll be surprised at what kind of material gets shoved up there! Carefresh, wood shavings, strands of hay, hair...even if they aren't impacted, I'm sure getting all of that junk out feels pretty good.

Jackie gets so offended when I clean out his junk in the trunk. It was important! He was saving it for when he really needs it!

Guinea Lynx :: Impaction
You don't have to do it unless they actually have impaction, but most people do it to get them used to if it impaction does occur. Plus, I have heard a lot of people say they get a lot of stuff up there so it cleans that out to.
