My guinea pig, Be-Bob, was one of my first rescues. And he isn't looking good :( He is really wet under his chin, like he barfed or something and crusty eyes. Please give me some advice, we can't afford a vet right now, but we usually do. PLEASE I have been putting powdered vitamin C in his water. dont know what else to do. help is appreciated.

Re: Help... :( Drooling/wet chin is normally associated with teeth issues. Crusty eyes are normally associated with an Upper Respiratory Infection. You really need to get him into a cavy savvy vet. The powdered C in his water will do nothing to treat illness and it degrades too fast to be of any use at all and can make him stop drinking. Please give him a C supplement in another manner if he needs it.

Re: Help... :( Maybe your vet can let you work out payment somehow like a payment plan or you could use a credit card or something, thats what I would try to do anyway? Can you see anything abnormal in his mouth when you look? How's his appetite doing? Hope that helps.

Re: Help... :( Ditto Ly. There is nothing you can but take him to a vet. Vit C in the water is pretty useless in general. If you can't get him proper treatment, you need to at least humanely put him to sleep at the vet rather than let him suffer. You can handfeed in the meantime http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html but he needs meds and treatment.

Re: Help... :( Can you work out a payment plan at the vet like peoticrat said? If you have a good vet, he/she'll be more interested in treating your animal than getting paid the fee. Is he eating and drinking like normal?
