Question Typical guinea pig size?

Hey all,

I have a question. Since i don't know much of my girls' history, I've had to figure things out myself. one of the odd things is that Jazz doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. She's finaly ALMOST 2lb's, but she's still the same size. Do you think maybe she was bred at an early age and it stunted her growth?

Re: Typical guinea pig size?

I guess that could also happen too. She's little over a year now so is under 2lb's normal?

Re: Typical guinea pig size?

Does she seem boney? If she eats, poops and drinks well and doesn't have any other issues, she may just be petite. I know a lady that has two girls that are about half the size of my boars and the girls are very healthy, just small.

Re: Typical guinea pig size?

animalfarm,
I was concerned about the same thing. (Is my guinea the correct weight?)
So I have started to chart responses that I've received about people's guineas on this forum. You can read the thread here:

I know you don't know Jazz's history, but has the vet estimated her age? It would help to tell you if she is in the norm statistically.

Thumbs up Re: Typical guinea pig size?

Jazz is fine with eating, and the vet didn't say anything at all. She's acualy more of a picky eater. My boys will rip food out of your hands, while jazz will almost ask if she can have the carrot by tuging softly.

Thank you for the responses. I'm thinking she may just be a small guinea pig. :) A small guinea pig with a BIG mouth. Jazz will definely tell you when she's hungry.
