White spot on my piggie's eye My daughters pig has developed a white spot on it's eye, I can't seem to reduce the pic size to post here and I can't seem to get a clear one anyways)= It is about 1/4th the width of the eye and situated towards the bottom. The whole eye appears to be a bit red and irritated. I have a Vet appt tommorow as it does not seem to be changing after a day of close observation. Has anyone seen or had anything like this happen to their pigs? I know the description is not the best and with no photo it's hard to tell but any feedback is appreciated.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye Unfortunately no, This is actually something on or in the lens. Kind of looks like an ovoid mushy pimple. It's not anything loose as upon close inspection I can see that it is actually attached to the eye.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye It's recommended to see a vet for eye injuries. The only eye injury I've had happen to a pig is getting a piece of hay stuck in his eye, which made it red an irritated. Hay pokes are fairly common, and do understandably cause irritation.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye It sounds like it could be a corneal ulcer. That is an extremely painful infection which can spread inward, rupture the cornea and cause blindness. I had one of those myself so I can speak from experience. If that is what it is your pig needs to see a vet as soon as possible and get on some antibiotic drops and painkillers.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye The piggy is not even fully grown yet, We have had her less than a week and this spot showed up 2 days ago and looked like a little bit of gunk on it's eye. It became obvious that it was not right when I got home from work yesterday but the soonest the vet can get me in is tommorow afternoon)=

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye I'm sure he'll be OK until tomorrow. At least you got him in as soon as possible, so many people leave it to the last minute when it's too late. If you haven't already, I'd read over the toxic medications list at GuineaLynx and have a print out handy when you go to the vets. Even exotic vets have been known to prescribe dangerous antibiotics so it's best to be informed yourself and not just take their word. Guinea Lynx :: Dangerous Medications Hope everything goes well tomorrow, keep us updated!

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye Verdict is in, appears to be a corneal ulcer so the Vet gave me eye drops and some kinda oral anti-inflammatory. She actually seemed to know a bit about piggies grilled me on housing, food, vitamin C etc. Sucks that I have to drive 20 miles but hopefully all will be ok.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye Glad you got a proper diagnosis. Nicely done VJ. Bell peppers sounds like a great prize! They are so expensive right now. You know you're a cavy slave when you're coveting a bag of bell peppers.

Re: White spot on my piggie's eye I'll take it! At 78 cents a piece a bag is a small fortune.
