Re: Impaction/Anal Clarification needed.

Being a member since "05, I would have thought you would know better then to let them have contact at all! Especially if your girls are past breeding age and never had litters before. It is way too dangerous!

As long as he begins getting the fiber he needs, his imapction problem may lessen a bit, but if it's as bad as you say, it probably will never go away completely.

Re: Impaction/Anal Clarification needed.

I don't know about impaction affecting mating instincts, I've met some male pigs who were totally uninterested in girls near them (though not touching or with any possibilty of contact between them).

But I agree with all that's been said about not allowing him near your girls for any reason. As has been said, it only takes a minute. Not to mention all he has to do is wriggle around, if you lose your grasp on him he could get to them. And you can't prevent the spread of mites or airborne diseases by holding him.

Re: Impaction/Anal Clarification needed.

Well I told the father and he was very receptive and wanted to set up a date for me to come to their house and teach them more, but apparently the mother decided that his cage is "big enough" so nothing has changed. And they never clean out the impaction, which apparently sometimes stretches up to 2 cm according to my sister. That poor baby... it really breaks my heart. I don't understand how people can remain ignorant especially when I've printed off all the information and told them that this could be fatal.
