Re: How many of you...

My first piggies (years ago) came with mites, which were fairly cheap and easy to treat as I remember.

One did develop a tumour in his throat though - the first we knew of it was when it became so big he could not lay down because it stopped him breathing. He was put to sleep that evening.

My current girls have been fine, until recently. A few weeks ago I found the mattress pad looking like there had been a massacre where of Betty had been peeing blood. We got them both into the vets the following day, and it turned out to be a bladder / urinary tract infection which cleared up0 in a few days. The appointment, initial injection, and course of oral antibiotics (for both pigs) came to under £30.

Re: How many of you...

I've had 5 female pigs for only 2-3 months now, but I am in total love with them. I can't tell you how much I enjoy their happy little noices when they hear the fridge open or a bag rustle. They are wonderful little companions to bring into your life, so please don't get too scared.

That being said. I bought mine from a Petstore before we knew better. I wish we hadn't, but what's done is done. Two of them had URI's, but I choose to treat all 5 at once. I was too scared it would pass back and forth between them all if I didn't. anyhow, they are all doing great now and it only cost me $75.00 for the doctor visit and the meds to treat all 5 pigs.

Good luck in what ever choice you decide to make.
