How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

I was just wanting to take a little survey about how much YOUR vet charges you for an x-ray. Mine charges $115 which seems really high. With that price it ends up costing me over $200 to diagnose a bladder infection (ruling out stones) when you tack on a urinalysis, office visit fee, medication etc. When I've had pigs get surgery (with no x-ray) it costed around the same price as an x-ray.

Is this normal???

$94, she tends to do additional views depending upon the problem because she knows me and knows they are all well taken care of rescues, usually ones no one else wanted. We joke about a frequent customer x-ray punch card. I've probably had 7 done in the last year.

Surgery on Pringle's mammary tumor was about $150 with meds.

I love my vet. I'd let her be my doctor!

That seems about right- maybe a touch on the high side. Depends on the size, some, and if it's digital or not. I had to go to the dentist the other week without insurance and it was about that. *sigh*

Well it all depends on the animal and weather there is extra radiographs needed. Usual for my office is 65-75 dollars, with 45 for an extra radiograph.

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

Sounds like my vet's price is a little on the high side but not that unusual. There's really nothing to "do" about it. My vet is second to none- has 8 pigs of her own, is a wonderful diagnostician and fabulous surgeon- so I would never switch over the price of an x-ray. I'll just suck it up and deal.

Thanks for the input.

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

Just curious but the is the practice that you go to a larger facility or a smaller one. Cuase the one I work at is smaller, but the prices for our radiographs are a little bit higher for our area)

Good point. It is smaller. I guess that means fewer patients to help pay off what I assume is a very expensive piece of equiptment.

$50/shot at my Vet's office. It sounds like you are getting the raw end of the deal.

That is very true. A good quility radiograph machine cost between 15,000-30,000 dollars. We are upgrading to a digital one, so the prices of our radiographs are going to be going up.

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

Lucky gits! :p I was quoted about $240 for an X-ray, 2 shots I think she said. Then a further $300 for the actual bladder stone surgery, urinalysis was $120. Most surgeries I have had done apart from neuters have been around $300. But I think medications like baytril and metacam are quite cheap here! Baring in mind I live in the UK.

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

That's insanity Rachey! A urinalysis is quite simple- it should NOT be that expensive. Mine runs about 30 I think. I literally could NOT afford to use your vet.

Oh good lord no, you got ripped off. A simple cystocentesis should cost no more 40 dollars top.

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

At my local vet (hospital with several vets):

X-Ray: Split Plate $60

Urinalysis & Specific Gravity $18

X-Ray Referral: $90

Further away vet (huge hospital, I mean huge):

Radiograph Per Expos (ure, I'm assuming): $24

Buying a bottle of 100 urine 10SG strips online/url]: $26.99 + shipping
(Obviously, no replacement for having vet tests, but it's far better than nothing for monitoring at home.)

Re: How much does an x-ray cost YOU?

My bad.. a urinalysis is actually only $70, it was the histopathology for a lump removal that cost $120

Weatherlight I too have brought a bottle of urine strips but I brought the Multistix GP ones, but I only got 25 strips for $20. Where did you get yours from? The website I got mine from charges $80 for the 10SG strips, I am not paying that! And my vet charges $6 per strip per test, pfft I'll do my own!

Generally, UK prices are higher anyway.
