Anyone from Malaysia?

Hi everyone,

I currently live in Canada but I'll be moving to Malaysia within the next 2 years (with my piggie of course! ). Does anyone know of an experienced vet in Kuala Lumpur or JB? I'm willing to travel far as long as I can find a good vet. My piggie has malocclusion and needs his molars trimmed every 3 months. What kind of hay and pellets do you have over there? If I want to bring my own into the country, do the customs allow it?

Re: Anyone from Malaysia?

Hi baby, I am from Malaysia. I think I am the only one in this forum who is from this country cause I still looking for cubes in my country and no one has any answer since. I am still new around here and still collecting info on guinea pigs.
So far I only come across timothy hay in a pet store but I'm not sure about other states but there is a link here somewhere that you can find places where to get the hays. It has something to do with horse ranch I think like polo club or something.
I don't come from KL or JB so I don't know any vet that treats guinea pigs but you can ask these vets wheater they do treat gp's or not. I don't know much about customs but I think you should have no problem bringing them here since gp's are sold everywhere in Malaysia and they do sold out very fast.
Sorry if I can't help much because I am quite new to gp's.

KL guinea pig

hi, i'm from Malaysia and staying in selangor.
in KL, there's this huge pet shop( i.e. by malaysian standards) in a shopping mall called midvalley megamall. this place, Pets Wonderland, sells alot of imported pet supplies. perhaps u could try shopping there if u really cant find anywhere else(coz the prices there are quite expensive). there's another pet shop in taman tun dr ismail (near the borderline of KL and petaling jaya) where they sell imported gp stuff too. that's where i finally found my late gp's harness, but i'm not too sure what's the name of the shop(it's about one shoplot big). i bought my gp from a shop in ss2, pj , i think the shop's name was "sea park pet shop", but i must say that its not too clean. i bought a bag of alfafa hay there. as for vets, so far i've only brought my dog to 2 different vets, one in subang jaya n one in taman mega, pj but upon enquiring about treating gps, both dont specialise in gps. but they'll treat gps anyway. if u would like the number for the vets, pls reply.

p.s: sorry for the "not too complete" info above..... its been 2 yrs since my gp went to heaven n since then i havent been visiting pet shops often.

Hay n Vets

Hello..you must be in Malaysia by now.
I just came back to malaysia with my two piggies.I've visited a vet in Subang Jaya-at the Subang Parade Mall, it's a clinic with 4 or 5 vets and they are quite familiar with bunnies. They are quite familiar with guinea pigs too, they charge about RM15-30 for a health visit depending on what your pig's problems are, minimal if your pig is healthy. Anyways, they'll send a referral to a piggy specialist in UPM (that's the Agricultural University of Malaysia) if your piggy has serious problems.

If you like to get hay in bulk, you can try Selangor Polo and Riding Club-they sell bulk alfalfa and timothy hay. Their phone number is 03-42564531.I've yet to try buying from them (as soon as my current hay storage runs out I'll try them!)Pet stores are quite expensive, Kaytee brand hay which costs about 3 USD is about RM23.00 here. So, I'm hoping to get cheap hay from this Selangor POLO club.

HOpe that helps. If you need the vet #, just let me know.

There is an animal hospital (vet) along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. It's directly opposite the Grand Pacific Hotel. If you drive along the Jalan Tun Razak, you will see it when you are on the fly over but it's under the flyover. The only way to get there is by turning in from Jalan Ipoh.
