What material are they standing on?

You do realise that guinea pigs can severely injure their toes and feet on wire floors don't you?

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer!

thanks TwinkieSlug! It's an anti-slip mat, it allows the urine to flow through and it does not cause bumblefoot. I give them towel to use as well. =)

Re: Guinea pig tricks

You already posted about this once and now you are doing it again. I am merging your threads together. Please don't crosspost your links all over our forum. Keep them in one thread.

I hope you are here to learn more about piggies and not just to post your videos so you can get hits.

thanks! I use positive reinforcement to train them, it's pretty easy, I have some instructions on my webpage. Any guinea pig can be trained to that!

It wasn't difficult, I took about a few weeks. =)

Cool object permanence in guinea pigs?

hello everyone,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dCBf7Jobbw
I wanted to test if guinea pigs know object permanence so I did a little experiment to find out.

Re: object permanence in guinea pigs?

Like you said in the video, their exceptional sense of smell probably let them know the lettuce was still there.

Love your accent

Re: object permanence in guinea pigs?

You were already told by another moderator not to post your videos all over the forum. Keep them in one place. I'm merging this one with the others.

I, like Ly, certainly hope you are here for more then just finding a place you can spam with all of your videos. If that's all you are here for we will be happy to start treating you like a spammer.

The test of object permanence is not a trick. Sigh.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer!

It's close enough considering you didn't post a thesis or scientific report you wrote on the subject and experiment. Without the scientific data to back it up your guinea pigs moving a towel to get at the lettuce is nothing more then a trick.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer!

It may or may not be a "trick" but either way you are spending quality time with your pigs and stimulating their little piggy brains. I love the videos. I feel inspired to see what my piggies can do! One still won't take food from my hand yet, but the other may be ready for learning something. Maybe I'll start with "circle."

Smile Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer!

Hi TwinkieSlug, I feel really happy when I read your reply. =) I post these videos for people like you, I was once very inspired by someone else too, and that's how I started training my pets. It's really amazing when you watch them learn, it's this huge amount of joy in your heart when they do what you want them to do. Go for it!!! You can always ask me if you face any problems, I'd be most willing to help even though I'm not really an expert.
