Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! That's pretty interesting. The pigs are adorable too! I trained one of mine to come out of the cage when the door was open for floor time and he would go back in when he needed a wee or water. The girls I have now have been audio trained with a bell for food. When they want food or if I don't give it to them fast enough, they ring the bell. The object permanence is a sicentific, if not behavioral observation. By nature they are foragers and are accustomed to digging for their food. The lettuce and towel was just incorporated into their already natural ability. That was very interesting and I think it's neat you are working with your animals this way. This was, how seeing eye dogs were first found. Because people did experiments that didn't hurt the animals at all but tested their strengths and now millions of people are living normal lives because of them.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! Could a guinea pig not get their toes/claws stuck in that flooring? Cute vids by the way. When I was 12 and I had 4 guinea pigs and I would say 'up' to one of them when he was on my lap. He would then run up to my chest and sit there, and I would carry him back to his cage.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you liked it. It took me awhile to train them to play piano AND tambourine simulataneously. haha. It's fun but a bit challenging.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! That is too cute! I am trying to teach my piggies how to go back home after lap time. And so far, everyone is doing alright, but my bubbles is quite a bit curious & got "lost" a few times from the designated paths though!

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! Persuasion is my veg. I have my boys doing circles! But anytime there is food involved. they are puddy in my hands. Maybe you would get down on the floor, and Move the food in that direction, and once he/she is "Home" Do it again.. And again...Basically... Repetition is key. So Far, I have circles, and When I say "Yum Yums" They go INSANE... Well ... Because it's yum yums. Good Luck!!

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! I have to say once again that if the only reason you are coming here is to post your videos, well that will soon stop. We do not allow people to come here and post things to outside sources just to get viewers for their videos or votes for their animals in contests or things of that nature. It seems the only times you post on this forum is about your videos.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! I'm probably taking a risk disagree with a Mod, but out of hamtaroplanet's 20 post, 6 were on other threads not related to her links. I personally enjoy her links, and love seeing what she does with her pigs But that's just my opinion and isn't worth much compared to the all mighty "policies".

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! I never said anything about banning so please stop assuming. I said that we do NOT allow members to use this site to get hits for their videos or websites or votes for their pigs in some beauty pageant on some other website. Hamtaro would not be banned at all but in the future may not be allowed to post links to their videos. We have rules and policies for a reason. The vast majority of these were made by Teresa aka CavySpirit, the owner of this site. We mods are here to enforce her rules and policies. Out of the 20 posts, 9 contain links to videos and one was a survey (which members aren't allowed to create surveys or polls).

But I agree that this user sounds a little like they are trying to become popular. They also sound like they are in middle school, so a better forum would be MySpace. This was originally meant to be an educational website with an educational forum to discuss things that hopefully educate people. I feel like this person should move to animalplanet.com forums if they want to continue to do this. There is a reson why there are hundreds of diffrent forums available on the internet, so people with different tastes and diferent wants and different needs can satisfy themselves. |

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! Hi, I do not see why it is not considered educational to show videos of trained guinea pigs. It is stimulating for them , it's a form of behavioral enrichment and it does wonders for a relationship between a owner and a pet, perhaps you do not appreciate this but I think others do. Also, I did not know about the whole "survey" thing, you can treat it as I am posting a question. I've been on many other pet forums and I don't get this kind of moderators, in fact people do love to watch my videos and I'm always willing to share positive reinforcement methods with them. This methods can be used to train dogs, cats, guinea pigs and even hamsters, how cool is that? I do not make other posts because honestly I have not many questions about raising them.

Re: Guinea pig tricks trainer! I just want to prove that it's not just dogs that can do stuff. You know, people always have this impression that guinea pigs can't be trained to do anything, I Google the net and there was this guy who said that he was SO SURE that guinea pigs can't be trained to do tricks and he is just wrong. This training thing is just the beginning, I've had them for only about 7 months and they're already able to produce such behaviors, they could do so much more and they can become like dogs too. It's all part of the magic of positive reinforcement.
