Angry Pet stores and my landlord

Okay, so I decided to check out pet stores and price guinea pig items (And I just love watching the cute little animals!) at a nearby pet shop. Well, I went straight to the guinea pigs and found a whole bunch in a large plastic storage tub. They seemed fairly happy though and seemed to have plenty of room. However, they had absolutely no hay or veggies and only a handful of pellets thrown into a small bowl. Also, they had a sign on the container that said employees can not garantee what sex you get, leading me to believe that they have males and females in the same container. I also noticed that they only had 2 pigloos (and quite a few piggies in there). The weaker ones were getting kicked out of the pigloos by the bigger ones and forced to take shelter under the water bottle. I saw a few guinea pigs crammed into a tiny cage (about gerbil sized) in this same store last year.

The next store had hay, but no pellets in their guinea pig box (a wooden box). They also put one piggy alone in a small cage. I really hate this store....I mean there was a dead fish lying on the floor and it had obviously been there for a while. There was also a dead gecko that got it's head stuck in a hole at the top and was hanging from the lid by it's head. It was horrible! There were many dead animals in this store and a lot of them looked sick.

Lastly, my mom had gotten back from dropping off rent and she told me how their rottwielers (?) had gotten to their guinea pigs while they were outside and broke a piggy's leg which means they probably don't have a lid on their outdoor pen, if they even have a pen. Poor piggy.

Sorry...I just needed to vent. It's unbelievable how some stores treat their animals.

Re: Pet stores and my landlord

You need to report the conditions of the pet store with the dead animals.

I agree with Slap. Report those awful conditions. Help in any way you can. Give advice to the pet stores.
