PLEASE HELP. We need to put this woman out of business!

I had been emailing back and forth about purchasing guinea pigs with a woman. She recently sent me pictures of the guinea pigs that she has for sale. The living conditions are deplorable. She's keeping them in small wire hutches outside that are covered in poo, the food bowls are noticeably empty, and the water bottles are solid green with algae. If I report her, can I get the pigs taken away from her? Are those conditions considered bad enough? The guinea pigs look lethargic, dirty, and overall just miserable. If you'd like me to attach pictures, I can. Please please please give me some advice..I think I'm going to report her anyways. I'll call tomorrow.

Edit: Forgot to mention some cages seemed packed like sardines. I feel so bad for them. The babies she's bred are kept in recycling bins covered in what I'm assuming is poo, and the shavings are soaked with urine & feces.

Each state has different laws for animal welfare so a lot of what you can or can't do depends on what your state and municipal laws dictate. Is she a licensed breeder? Here in IL, the IL Dept of Agriculture sometimes gets involved in cases of suspected animal neglect. I also know that PETA gets involved with some cases. You should call your local animal control and ask their advice on who you should contact and what you can do.

You could report her to animal humane society, plus all those animals crammed in filthy cages is also a health risk for people (if the fact that the living conditions aren't bad enough for the pigs).

Yes, please report her. You can call local authorities, The Humane Society, ASPCA, or PETA. PETA's ER number is757-943-1203. Sending pictures for PETA is good too.

I'd be more inclined to contact the local authorities first. HSUS and some of the other big groups often take control of the animals and euthanize them. Another idea might be to contact local guinea pig rescues to see if they can get involved. They've probably been involved with larger scale rescues and know the best steps to take.

Yes, my dear, PLEASE report this incredibly thoughtless person, to the proper authorities !! How cruel is this...this is NOT out of ignorance...it is just plain greed and apathy.

Not really the worst condition I've seen with breeders, but it does look really bad. No hay at all! Law in my country requires water for animals 24/7, if there's none, that's considered animal cruelty, what more if it's in america? So there's one law they broke, go report them, the humane society could find something worst and finally put an end to it.

I know, huh ? It makes me more ANGRY than sad initially, and then like you said...I think of my girls, how expressive, gentle, and wonderful these little creatures are and then I want to just....cry.

However, I am the type of woman ( this may surprise many who know me on here, but it IS DEFINITELY true) who would march right on over there and give them a piece of my mind !!

However, in reality, I would of course not do this, for it would only serve to exacerbate things, and get in the way of the authorities job. I would choose instead to call the local authorities, and persevere until this person is closed down, and hopefully punished with fines.

I'm the same way, however writing her back and ripping her a new one won't make her rethink and stop what she's doing. The one thing that makes me happy out of all of this is the look on her face when authorities show up. I'm the type of person that does not give up. And since animals are my passion, I don't care what I have to do, I'll make sure this gets taken care of.

She's located over 2 hours from me, but I'll go down there to the animal centers myself if I have to.

You've got my full support! This makes me feel all kinds of emotions: I feel angry, sad, frustrated because even if they take her pigs away, unless this woman is put behind bars, she will almost certainly start again. She's either a breeder or a hoarder.

I actually live in Florida also! It just gets me so heated when I see people so careless with animals. The piggies feet must be hurting from that wire flooring! On the last picture it definitively looks like some sort of farm. You are definitively doing the right thing by calling authorities! Keep us updated!!
