Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

Thread reopened. It was pared off from the Neutral Forum thread. Anyone that wishes to continue this debate can do it here.

While name calling has not actually happened on this thread it has come VERY close. No insulting, no name calling and most of all try to be reasonable.

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

The pet store I buy from sells fish, but they are well cared for. That is it. No hamsters, Piggies, etc. They also have Oxbow SUPER cheap and all of my products I use. I get a good discount too because I am a frequant buyer

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

If you don't want your apartment looking more like a pet store you can try some creative solutions. I want to buy a big bale of hay, but I don't want my kitties to eat it or for it to be in the way. So I'm going to buy one of those wood slat boxes people use for keeping firewood in thier house. I'm going to put some craft paper in the box to keep the hay from going all over the place. Then I'm going to put some cushions on the top and voila! Multi purpose furinture. It's an extra seat, a place for the cats to sleep (they like the hay smell) and a food storage container. I'll put some hay in the containers I use now for my small bags (plastic kitty litter containers with lots of holes punched in them.) and take from the big box when I need to.

You'd be surprized what you can come up with when you put your mind to it. Lots of people buy lots of things in bulk and thier houses don't look like grocery stores.

I'm confused. Wasn't Sara's Pets here at the same time as Roberta? In the thread about the Alaskan oil Roberta was the one who mentioned the terrorists comming through Canada myth. And she joined at the same time as Sara's Pets. Maybe I really am a dumb blonde :P

She joined with several names so she could have someone arguing on her side. Her Roberta and Guest aliases were banned as a warning that she shouldn't send hate email.

All of her names are now banned and her IPs will also be banned. You have no idea the kind of filth that spills from her mouth in private.

And I thought the stuff Roberta said in public was bad enough. Got me right riled up.

Don't people have better things to do? Like plunge off a cliff? Cursing in e-mail has got to be one of the lamest things I've seen in a while.

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

I won't pay for high price shipping but I love taking long rides to our feed store. It would take us about an hour to get there and there is a local farm store where I can buy fresh veggies for my piggies. I have 50 containers that I got from my previous job and use it for their pellets and it stays fresh. I buy 2 50 lbs bags everytime we go out there. We have 13 piggies and we foster many. So 2 50lbs bags of pellets last us 3 to 4 mos. Depending on how they eat and if I fostered pregnant ones they eat the most.

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

Some websites have free shipping. It's nice that you're putting your pets first, but what about the animals suffering in pet mills, suffering without vet care in the back room of pet stores and the ones being put to sleep in shelters because they couldn't find a home (probably due to the pet store or overbreeding involved with them)?

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

Are you saying that feed stores support animal mills. This guy I go to gets so many buyers for food and say that they don't support pet stores at all. He hates supporting pet stores too and that is why he started a feed store so pet store can be at lost.

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

Who? Me?

The feed stores I frequent don't sell animals, but I know there are a few around that do. I think one of the posters above said the one she goes to doesn't sell mill animals, but sometimes has animals that owners dump off?

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

oh ok. I read it wrong. yeah I know that there are some feed stores that would sometimes get stuck with animals that have been droped off. I know that the one I got to sometimes get that and he would never have a problem finding a good pet owner to take them and he would do it for free only if the people were buying food for that kind of animals.

Re: Buying from Pet Stores VS. Feed Stores/Online

I go to the local Feed Store also. It's very close and only has animals for sale that people have dumped off as someone mentioned previously.

I can honestly say I get four times as much food and hay at our Feed Store than at ANY Pet store.
