Re: Breeder's Cages The plastic bins look like 16"x22"--those wire shelves are, what, 6'x2'? My mom has some in her kitchen with pots and pans on them. This is horrific: ![]()

Re: Breeder's Cages It is horrific. No hay, no pellets or veggies, no water that I can see (or is that an automatic waterer?) Wire bottom. The only source of entertainment those pigs have... is a ROCK.

Re: Breeder's Cages What the hell is wrong with these people!!! I would sooner lose a limb than have a pig or any animal confined to such small housing, this brings tears to my eyes.

Re: Breeder's Cages Those wire cages look like they are in an industrial enviroment. They look like the food processing plant I work at. Is that a cavy mill?

Re: Breeder's Cages That's just disgusting. I agree that the H.P & A Caviary looks like an industrial plant. This is a wild guess, but I bet they're the type that puts down guinea pigs ...& I was right. http://www.netherworld.com/~cowboy/Euthanasia.htm !!! And this one has a wheel!! I think they decided to ignore all good advice that has ever been given on guinea pigs. http://www.familytimezone.com/domini...es_set_up.html

Re: Breeder's Cages The shame is, the pigs are still so beautiful and in need of love. But we can't help them without helping the breeder.

Re: Breeder's Cages I almost cried when I started reading the eutheasia link. "Nessesary part of animal husbandry" my behind! It's not nessesary at all. If the animal is sick bring it to the vet so they can decide. Find something else to do with your non perfect pigs. Like, I don't know, give them to families that will love them. And if you run out of those, stop breeding! My pigs are far from "perfect specimens" but I love them to bits anyway

Re: Breeder's Cages David Hardesty is dead. He died a few months ago. His 500 or so pigs have long since been redistributed amongst the breeder community. David Hardesty is held in high regard in the breeder community as a role model. He did promote 'larger' cages for guinea pigs. However, he was a classic MILL BREEDER -- as are many of the high-profile breeders in the ACBA.
