Re: Breeder's Cages

Probably just a problem with internet or forum, I don't think it's intentional.

It is obvious the pigs do not have enough space, especially the ones leaning over the side of the cage. I can't help but remember the breeder mentioned in a thread several months ago who had passed away and left 500 pigs behind.

Someone is showing their pigs, those must be prize ribbons on one of the cages. Can anyone read what the post-it notes on the cages say?

Re: Breeder's Cages

I had screwed up on one setting. I ACCIDENTALLY changed this forum to moderate posts. I didn't realize it until you all said something. I've approved the posts that I didn't know were hung up in moderation. No one was being censored.

It should be okay now. Sorry about that.

Re: Breeder's Cages

Guys, it's not that bad. Their bedding is clean and they have fresh water and veggies. It could be a LOT worse.

Re: Breeder's Cages

And here I've been thinking that my 2x4 cc cage is too small for my 2 piggies......

Re: Breeder's Cages

These are the sorts of breeders I don't like. They do have toys & clean bedding, water, etc.. The only problem is, they're crowded. I really don't like their cages at all. I wouldn't put anymore than two in there really. Or maybe not even that.

Re: Breeder's Cages

CavySpirit: I phorgive you.

As for the breeder, she says the pigs never jump out of those plastic boxes. This may be - but they won't popcorn either cause they'd smash their head against the box above. And when I see how much my pigs like running and climbing and hiding and leaping in their BIG cage, I can only say I feel very very sorry for those poor breeder pigs.

I wouldn't want to give my pigs into the "care" of someone who kills a hamster just because it bites (which is what she says on her website).

Re: Breeder's Cages

And that is all they are referred to 'breeders' or 'stock'. It's really sad.

Re: Breeder's Cages

I looked at the picture's and I would never use them but if it had to be done, one pig is all I would put in one box/container... I was suprises to see so many in a small cage!

They should all be shot! (the breeder's, not the piggie's)

Re: Breeder's Cages

That's crazy! They are packed in those plastic bins like sardines. Slap - that had to break your heart to see that. I mean, they look healthy and clean, but they have to be sad. Maybe they don't know any better.

Re: Breeder's Cages

Never mind, got it through the pictures.

http://home.houston.rr.com/caboodle

I like the play area that she's got for the guinea pigs. It suggests that she is familiar with C&C cages. Which makes me wonder WHY she would keep her guinea pigs in such small cages? I mean, I've seen various pictures of stacked C&C cages that have worked quite well.

Re: Breeder's Cages

Ugh! I was reading through the first one & it says she feed her guinea pigs rabbit food because they're too fat. To give them enough vitamin C she adds drops to their water.

Edit for one of the links: http://www.garbersguineas.us
Hmmm, that's not working for me either.

Re: Breeder's Cages

I'm going to e-mail them about why they keep the pigs in such small cages.

Here in australia there is no specific dry mix for cavies and rabbits individually - they are all the same (all is recommended for both) - of course some are much better than others.

Re: Breeder's Cages

How can you make a food for both animals? That's like saying that there is a combination cat/dog food for sale. They are both carnivoires but they have different needs.
