Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

Omg, nobody who cares about animals should watch and support that Dr. Dolittle movie with your money! Having live animals in a movie is bad news and they more than often get dumped right after and no doubt abused during secenes like chimps. ugh. Thats not entertainment

Not to mention the damage they caused with 101 Dalmations and other similar movies.

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

I really didn't know that this type of stuff happened in the movie industry, I assumed that they were just like sitcoms, where the majority of animals are treated very well. I know that the dog from Frasier was supposedly treated very well, I watched a documentary on him one night and they explained all of the restrictions placed on his working hours and how he actually belonged to someone and went home with her everynight. They showed him now retired and enjoying life. I guess I just assumed that all animals were treated like this...I guess that was naive of me.

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

You can't really blame people who put their guinea pigs into tiny hutches because they jsut don't know. You have to blame the pet shops for not telling them the right information. The pet shops only want to sell their stupid hutches! If you get a person who works for a pet shop who actually knows ANYTHING about them then you are very lucky. When I first got my guinea pigs (a Lethal and a crested tri-colour oh they are gorgeous) I put them into a tiny hutch because that was what the ANIMAL SANCTUARY told me I should do. Ha! What do they know? They even said my Lethal was nuetured (I dont know how to spell that, sorry) and he wasn't.... When the litter came I built a series of huge hutches so it's alright now. Thankfully, they were only about 6 months old when I got them so not too big.

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

I know with the 101 and 102 Dalmation movies, they did not put out a casting call until the last minute. That way people could not go out and breed just for the movie.

I had a big concern when we went to see Sky High, the movie about kids going to a Super Hero High school. One of the kids was a shape shifter, but teh only thing she could change into was a Guinea Pig. Well, this girl had died blue and purple hair, so when she changed, the pig had blue and purple hair. Now how many kids do you think went home and wanted to dye their pig?

Whether it's fake or not is not really the issue. The issue is...how many kids think it is real and will want to do the same thing. The first thing my daughter said was, "There are going to be a lot of kids out there who want a colored pig."

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

Nowadays a green-blue guinea pig could easily be done with computerized special effects. Still, Disney is far from an ethical company, in addition to animal abuse, there is: child labor, exploitation of indigineous peoples, dangerous and unsafe products, antitrust and unfair anti-competitive practices, theft of intellectual property -- despite their 'family' image these things are the reality for Disney.

I do blame people who put their cavies in substandard cages... when I first started out I had a rescue (abandoned cavy) in a 1x2 since that was what the nearby petstore had and I needed a cage quick. Even with very minimal animal behavioral knowledge it was obvious the cavy was not comfortable in such a small cage. When you have a pet it is your responsibility to keep that pet comfortable and conditions that pet lives in adequate. If there is something that so obviously causes the pet duress, if you don't rectify that you are not a responsible owner at all.

I could see this happening. I never thought I would meet a blue poodle but last year I did.

My Mother in Law wanted to go to a fabric shop that was up in the boondocks of northern Ontario, it was called the "Blue Poodle fabric store" or something, I thought it was a "catchy name". Nope, standing in the middle of the store was a cornflower blue poodle. Apparently they have been dying it for over 10 years.

With all the people kicking up a fuss over putting a hat on a guinea, I don't even want to know where this topic is going to end up. Not that I think many of us would advocate dying our piggies. For me, that is crossing the line.

I highly doubt they actually dyed a pig's fur. It can be done easily with a little photoshop know-how. Heck-even I can do it!

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

All I want to say is that the man that owns and trains the dog(s) from the "Air Bud" movies lives very close to my in-laws. He owns a large piece of property and has a ton of space for the dogs. He has since become friends with my in-laws and I have met him once or twice. Those dogs are treated better than I treat my family :-)

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

I think Disney really is crossing the line. They should have made the girl shape shift into some made up critter rather than let impressionable kids see a purple guinea.
I quite agree that animals shouldn't be in movies. I think Harry Potter is cruel. Those owls are filming in the middle of the day when they would otherwise me sleeping! And the zebra from Racing Stripes. But there are some exceptions.
Making educational videos, providing the animals arent mistreated. Now if only someone would make a guinea video and force kids to watch it, then brainwash pet store owners and fix this tiny hutch problem! I wish I hadnt brought a pet store hutch for my first guineas. It is sad how little people know about guineas. Just because their small doesnt mean that they dont need as much attention as a dog.
Hmmm, maybe it would be alright to use animals in movies as long as they were respected, not over worked and went to a loving home at night.

Has anyone seen the movie with that black guy from the Green Mile and Owen Wilson in it, about the little kid from Two and a Half Men who adopts a run away FBI dog? Well, the black guy adopted that dog after the movie finished. So thats a nice ending.

Re: Disney's "Pets and your family" disgusts me

I've alwways wanted a little guinea pig, but we've always ahd a dog and my mother was always afraid that my dog fred would eat the little guy. So i've only just got a little furry fellow and before I saw this site, I just went by what the guy at the petstore told me. Which is, A smaller cage is fine, although its preferable to have a larger one... At the moment i'm thinking the small cage isn't good enough for Nibbles.. also I asked him what i can do to amuse Nibbles and he said that there wasn't really much on the market.. Now i know that different levels and such are good for them.. I'll have to do more reaserch, but as with all animals people rush into it without ever looking into how to make life better for the creature.
