There are thousands of pigs on Petfinder.com

Re: Petco VS. Petsmart

I went to Petco today. I also went to a regular pet store. At the regular pet store, I found cedar being sold as bedding. I asked the guy at the register if he knew cedar killed small animals. He said 'depending on the small animal- Yes.' The app. one month old guinea pigs were in a 10 gallon tank, with no hay, and no food. Then I went to Petco. I walked in the doors, and there was a big sign - "Please consider adopting". There were no Guinea Pigs out. All over the tanks were the "Please consider adopting first" signs. There was also a rescue there with cats.

I am not defending Petco. This is just what I saw.

You obviously have one of the best Petco's that I have EVER heard of. Gee, I wish the PetCo here put out signs saying "Please consider adopting first" instead of pushing the poor animals in 2 sq.ft aquariums three to a tank.

Re: Petco VS. Petsmart

like i said, i work for petsmart.
here, we have an excellent facility (in alabama)
though the animals are in cages a little too small, they all get food, water, veggies, toys, hidey houses, and wheels (hamsters mice and gerbils get wheels that is) guineas get hay, everyone gets chew blocks.our fish are even well taken care of.

we have a petco 1 mile down the road. my best friend is a manager there. their care is better than some petcos (maybe even most) but they used to be pretty bad. they have really started straighting up though. they display the adoption first signs. i wish we did that at petsmart, but all in all we have better animal care than any petstore i have ever been in.
