    Where do you shop online?

Im looking for an online store that sells carefresh for cheaper then at the petco out by me. Right now I get it (60 liters) for about 20 dollars. I also want to look and price compare a few other things.
So I was wondering what site you buy your pellots/bedding/ect from. Thanks!

Probably can't help since I use UK based online stores, but I find www.thehayexperts.co.uk to be a great place to get everything I need online!

I buy mine at Pet Supplies Plus in IL which does not sell live pets. PSP are franchised stores which are independently owned and operated. They run specials for buy one, get one free occasionally, so I stock up when it goes on sale.

I don't... Shop online that is, but one of these days it is in my plans to order from KM or SM... I buy my supplies(aka pellets, pigaloos) from pampered pet. They don't sell any animals(Or fish, I beleive) but they have a pet cat who goes to the store with them, then goes home at the end of the day(Or, it could be a foster?). They sell the full oxbow line.

I get Carefresh and Yesterday's news from petfooddirect.com

Another good site is drsfostersmith.com Their shipping is based on price, not weight and they now carry Carefresh. (but they don't have YN so I don't order from them since I use both in my "kitchen" area)

I get pellets and hay from kmshayloft.com

I get my hay and pellets from KM. I use fleece as bedding so I don't have to worry about that. Any other products I may need I get at a pet supply store that does not sell any live animals.

Re: Where do you shop online?

Thanks everyone! I found some good deals! But sadly all of the places are way more expensive (for carefresh). (I have a mostly fleece cage with a carefresh kitchen). But I didnt know that petsupply plus didnt sell animals, and theres one on my way home from class, so I will stop by there and look.
    Thanks!

KW Cages usually has a good deal on Carefresh. Is there a feed or tack store near you? They usually have shavings cheap.

Re: Where do you shop online?

The more detailed explanation as to why I've closed this thread is as follows:

I am in the midst of finalizing a very large, important new site.

It is going to be a resource guide and shopping site for anything and everything to do with guinea pigs.

Listings will be formalized. Ratings and reviews will be possible and much, much more.

I'm done with the informal free-for-all of everyone making money off my site and traffic and referrals. I'm going to be instituting a very cool process for it.

AND one that gives back to rescues all around the world.

So, no more free-ride from me. I simply cannot take the red ink any longer. Neither can the rescues. This is a project that has been in the works for many, many years, and is about to see the light of day.

That's why this thread is closed.

Re: Where do you shop online?

    sdpigglvr asked via PM:

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand what you said. Are you going to delete this site? Are you going to make a new forum? What will this new site have? Will members have to pay for their membership? How will this "new system" work?

    Thanks for all you do.
So, definitely not going to delete this site. However, the current "Store" which sucks, but Sue has been putting up with for years, will be redirected to the new site. With all new features and functions, some new products, etc.

There will be a new forum associated with it. But the forum is NOT the main focus. The main focus is the huge database that will be there.

Members will NOT have to pay for membership. There will be a few cool new features that some members may choose to add-on for a small sum to upgrade their account.

Vendors and companies will NOT have to pay to list their site/products/services--BUT, there will be a variety of ways to upgrade their listings/accounts.

ANY revenue generated will be split between myself, rescues around the world and a customer affinity program.

ANY vendor/product listed that does NOT upgrade their account in some fashion will simply be identified as not supporting rescues. I'm relying on peer pressure, great features that will dramatically improve their business and the members to 'encourage' vendors to support the site.

There will be a Member Participation Rewards system. Points can be earned by all kinds of participation. Submitting listings, adding reviews, ratings, posting on the forum, commenting on the articles, linking back to that site from your site, other link exchanges, buying products, etc. Points earn rewards--discount coupons for products, etc. Points can be donated back to rescues/others...

There will FINALLY be a super cool database and rating and review system for all guinea pig (and rabbit) vets.

Rescues and shelters will be listed with the ability to add ratings and reviews on them.

The ratings and review system is very similar to Amazon's. People can vote on whether a review is helpful to them or not. Reviews and listings can be reported, marked as favorites, etc.

    A lot of stuff.

So, now that I've let a lot of the cat out of the bag, I'll reopen this thread to discuss this if you want.

    The original topic is DISCONTINUED.
No one is to post listings of companies.

AND the thing that I'm so frickin' excited about this project, is that the technology that I always envisioned with this solution, is finally available.

Bottomline, this will be an INTERNATIONAL database with all addresses geocoded such that you will be able to search for LOCAL listings.

Not sure which phase I'll be adding in the classified component of rehoming guinea pigs. I may have to wait for an upcoming release of the software I'm using. Not sure yet.

Also, I won't have the whole vision for the site out of the gate, but I'm trying to get as much of the foundation laid right now as possible. Working on it this minute.

Just promoted BPatters to Cavy Champion for her wonderful assistance in the database cleanup of the old and broken "where to find Cubes and Coro" listings which are being imported into the new system.

More info to come, but that's a start. And currently a work in progress.

I should add that in the long run, I will likely end up replacing guineapighome.com. The technology that I'm using there is old and I worked too hard to make it perfect for my needs and it's heavily customized. Too much so to upgrade. So, in the end, I'm hoping this new site will serve that purpose as well--but in a much better way.

Within two months, hopefully much sooner than that--maybe a couple of weeks, but knowing me, that should be the max.

Thumbs up Re: Where do you shop online?

That sounds literally AMAZING, Teresa! It will surely be great.

And I'm sure all the new databases and listings will be helpful to new (and old) guinea pig owners. I will definitely be supporting the site and adding those extra features.

What products besides C&C cage materials will you be selling in the new and improved Store?

I like the Member Participation reward system. I think it's a great idea that you might even consider integrating here. There are a lot of members who put in more than their share of time.

I love the idea of having all those databases. People will be able to find experienced vets, great products, revered stores, and more in just one place! And the ability to rate and review products, companies, etc. -- GREAT idea. I think that'll be an amazing asset to the site, because people can feel comfortable buying something when they know other people have recommended it after their good experiences. It's a brilliant idea, like the rest of the site!

Oh, my gosh, this sounds like the best thing that could've ever happened to guinea pig owners! (Besides this forum, that is.)

And what will you be calling this amazing, brilliant, guinea pig super center?

I can't wait to see the finished product!

You've done it again, Teresa! Quit blowing us away with your ideas!

Just about everything will have a place in the directory. I'll only be selling Sue's items directly, but have a plan in place for those who want to market their items as a mini-store on my site. Probably Phase 2.

The problem is the site infrastructure doesn't support it. This site is also going to get a massive overhaul. But I used to get too wrapped up in trying to do too much on a "Cages" site. So, I really needed to create this new site first. Then it will make much more sense to me on how to address this site's make-over.

Yup. I think it's pretty brilliant, too. A LOT of hard work and forfeiting of time, money, recreation etc. and still going. But the vision is good and totally worth it.

Aww, thanks. Well, I can't tell you the name yet, because every once in a while I have to make the site public for testing and it's really not ready yet. But trust me, I think it's cool and it works.

Oh, one more thing I can share--the following items (heavy and bulky) will have special LOCAL search capabilities:

    • Cubes
    • Coroplast
    • Hay
    • Bedding (non-fleece)
    • Pellets

Also local searches will be available on:

    • Veterinarians
    • Rescues
    • Shelters
    • Guinea Pigs (phase 2)

The site will also include Book and Video listings/reviews.

Pet stores themselves, I have an entirely different plan for. Different site, different agenda.

OH MY! Thank you SO MUCH. I have had such a hard time finding cavy savy vets near me (and carefresh thats is in a non-animal-selling store). I am forever grateful

I think the better title for this thread is "The amazing new guinea pig site that will blow you away!".

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll be counting down the days till I can see this brilliant site Teresa's making.

I'll definitely be posting and reading reviews, paying for extra features, adding to the database, and doing whatever other cool things the site has to offer.

I think this site will change the world of guinea pigs as we know it for the better. Really, it's a revolution in guinea pig sites, it is. You'll definitely be making your mark, Teresa. As if you already haven't.

Thanks, again, for your great ideas!
