I posted this on GuineaLynx but I thought I'd share here, too. This is what I personally feel is a positive way to show people who don't know any better and shop from Petco why C&C cages are a good idea.
Petco (yeah, I know) is currently holding a contest (link removed by moderator as we don't want to promote Petco with links but you can go to their website and find the info on the contest)
The important thing about this contest is that it allows users to submit pictures of their pet's "pad" and a short description. I propose that people from GuineaPigCages.com flood this contest with pictures of our C&C cages. They may inspire people who visit the site to build their own cages!
The contest has certain rules and entries are screened. This doesn't mean they won't post homemade cages--they've posted some pretty nice homemade hamster and cat pads. They won't post anything with a url or reference to other products, offers, or websites or anything "critical or spiteful" or "product feedback. They will also ask you to pick three recommended products that you use in your cage. (To avoid shilling for crappy products, you can select something generic like carefresh or a food bowl.)
But this basically just means don't directly or openly criticize them when you submit. Instead, try to make your story as interesting as possible so readers can draw their own conclusions about whether or not your cage is worth copying.
Mention that the cage was really easy to build, that you like seeing the pigs run around, that you saved the pigs from a rescue and when you brought them home they were so happy to have the space, etc.
I know it's Petco, but maybe this is a way to turn their contest against them? Rather than lecturing Petco with our contest submissions, we can show their customers why C&Cs are great. Just having C&Cs represented in the contest is important! And if you see someone with a C&C in the contest, vote for it!
