Re: Pro Animal Testing?

Same here. I read in "Dog Fancy" that when labs test on dogs they cut their vocal cords out so that they can't bark any more. It was so sad, this little beagle was freed from a lab(or should I say hell?) and adopted out, but all he can do is grunt.

All animals need to be treated the same as Humans. This is considered just plain crude. If you want to be this way, then stay off a board that is thoughtful about all animals.....

I admire cavies. They're natural-born vegans, and they get to play all day! What a life.

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

animals should be treated as well as we should. In england it's not a crime for animals to be tortured and killed when they are not being tested on. I've got three points to say about animal testing:

1: there are alternative testing onto things that cannot feel it.
2: other animal species don't react in the same way as we do so they can do all the testing they want and STILL get it wrong.
3: at some point 28 days later or similar is going to happen. they are going to make animals go crazy and eat us or make them really big so they will overthrow us... not a bad idea though seeing as we are distroying their homes their lives and their families lives!

Is anyone else here going to be an animal rights activist when they are older?

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

It IS sad and obviously it's happening on a regular basis. I also feel strongly against having a cats back legs declawed, simply because if they ever went outside, and were chased by a predator, they would be unable to climb to safety, Infact I had an argument with my cousin over this. She had all 4 of her cat's feet declawed. I told her about this and she said that her cat would never go outside so therefore there was nothing to worry about. A year later she moved and abandoned the cat there. After a few days I went looking for it and it was gone, probably eaten by something.

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

I'd never have my cats paws declawed. I cryed badly when all he did was hurt his hind leg and the vet already said it was fine and he could come home the next day. I could never go through putting him in pain.

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

But If your younger than 18 it's pretty hard. I'm gonna work on biology and chemistry so I can learn to be a vet, than use my skills to open a vetinary/ shelter and have prices affordable but slightly profitible so I can use the money to feed me and the pigs and maybe employ someone to do work and also employ someone else to vet so I can go on rallies. I've written an angry letter to iams, saying they are disgusting and should leave those poor cats and dogs alone.

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

I'm not "pro-animal testing", but there are certain cases where I understand it was necessary and there was no other way.

What bothers me is that there really is so much of it going on that is stupid and pointless and doesn't really even provide much information medically.

I study medicine and most of the time, I have to read the words, "the animals were sacrificed at the end of the trial..." and it was something stupid, and it was a really useless experiment, and they probably could have gotten the data without sacrificing the animal.

It's really depressing.

No - I'm not going to "protest" it in general. Sometimes it IS necessary and saves a lot of lives - human AND animal (though I think humans are just another animal anyway).

I do wish there were some finer points made aobut hte process.

Re: Pro Animal Testing?

There is no reason to test on animals.

85% of drugs that reach clinical trial fail to attain general distribution (which certainly questions the efficacy of animal tests).

Despite drugs being 'successfully' tested on animals, many are still withdrawn from the market due to them causing detrimental side effects on humans which were not predicted through animal tests.

There is no evidence that increases in the number of animal experiments have lead to a corresponding improvement in human health.

AAHR - Australian Association for Humane Research Inc.

There are many alternatives to animal testing that ARE working. That are making results. Genomics, Proteomics, Nanotechnology, Pharmacogenomics, and Phage Display. All these methods use sound scientific methods and not use various torture experients in the hopes they'll get lucky and get a cure. Its all about money. If animal testing were to stop they would loose their funding. Its not about finding the cure or helping the human race. If that was the case they would use logical methods of testing such as the ones listed above and spend time working for that cure not using the quick easy method of testing on animals. Animal testing continutes due to profits, sponsership and because it is quick and easy. No cure is quick and easy. It takes time and dedication. Animal testing is outdated and illogical. Its time scientists actually paved the way for logical and practical hypothesis and experiments and not some quick easy fix to continue funding for their companies and lifestyles.
