Re: No idea how to react.

My brother teases me too and he is only nine. I think he is just jealous because he likes my pigs more than "his" gerbils. He always says how ugly and dirty they are. Geez he gets on my nerves but I know he doesn't mean it because five minutes later he will ask me to take them out.

I wouldn't let his words get you down too much. If you know in your heart that you want a pig (or two preferably as they are social) and can provide a great life for your pig(s) and are willing to do the right things for them then don't let him deter you.
WOW. I totally agree with you there! My older brother did (and actually come to think of it, at the age of 29 STILL does) call my guinea pigs "rodents" and "test experiments". Gah! Sometimes, they grow out of it. Other times, they don't. I'm just glad that he lives in Kentucky 800 miles away.

I honestly love rodents of all kinds, but guinea pigs are the most social and down-to-earth. I agree that she'll be fine if she sticks to her guns and ignores her brother's negative opinions.

Re: No idea how to react.

My dad picks on me for liking these rodents. He says they're just rodents, and yet I've heard from mom that my dad has taking a liking to the boys at home. He goes in and talks to them and plays with them and gives them veggies. When the kitchen gets finished remodeling he's going to put their cage out there by his desk so he can watch them all day.

It makes me kind of giggle to see my dad getting attached to them. So weird, we're attached to the same animals. I adore his cat and he likes guinea pigs. last time he came to my apartment he stopped and admired my cage, took pigtures and just smiled.

He even used to joke that he was trying to make them plump so that they could eat them. But it's pretty easy to tell when my dad's joking. I still looked at him with indignation and huffed and said "No you will not!"

So he could just be playing. I don't know because I don't know your brother.

Re: No idea how to react.

That sounds exactly like something my brother would say, word by word. It is just a brother thing. They are good at being mean and saying mean things about animals, well mine is good at the saying mean things about animals part but I am sure if it came down to it, He wouldn't hurt a fly
