Okay, don't bother asking for advice on breeding here. Please don't breed your pig! Even if you're planning to keep all the babies, there's no reason to create more lives for your own selfishness. If you want more pigs, adopt (don't buy) more - don't subject your poor female to the dangers of breeding and contribute to an already massive overpopulation problem. In case you haven't noticed, this is a very pro-rescue and anti-breeding forum, so no one is going to encourage you to breed your poor pig or support your decision if you do it, especially if you do it knowing full well how irresponsible it is. As for the colors of the pig you've got that's "already pregnant" ... There's really no way to know, other than possibly a combination of the colors of the mother and father. You've been registered on this site since July. If in 3 months you haven't figured out that discussing breeding is not allowed, I'm left to wonder if you've read anything at all on this site. |

Have you read Breeding Guinea Pigs ? You should be hoping that she is not pregnant rather than thinking about breeding her again in the future unless you want her to die. It sounds like you got her from a pet store or another irreputable breeder. You should be worrying about genetics and health rather than colors (unless you are dealing with roans) but hard to expect that from your typical backyard breeder, more interested in looks than health. |

Unbelievable. You don't really know if the guinea pig is pregnant, you know nothing at all about her since you just bought her, you knew you already had a male guinea pig and bought a female one and to top all of that off you already have them housed together in the same cage. (as could be seen in your gallery photos which I am deleting as we DO NOT allow breeding threads or pictures in this forum) You just might be the epitome of irresponsibility. If she isn't already pregnant she soon will be since you threw her into the same cage as your male. Remove her from the male's cage immediately, get both of those animals to the vet and stop acting so selfishly and unthinkingly. You are aiding in making this world a worse place. It's not that difficult to THINK about your actions before you act. You have a choice in this world to be part of the solution or part of the problem. Try to make more conscientious choices in the future and STOP endangering the health and safety of your pets. Last edited by VoodooJoint; 10-10-09 at 09:20 am. |

So what if something goes wrong, you dont seen to know how to care for the piggies let alone what to do if something goes wrong with the pregnancy or birth. Keep her away from any boys you have. Make sure she has a safe cage for a pregnant guinea and the correct diet. Good pellets loads of hay and a good selection of veg. She will crave the moist veg near the end so make sure you supply her with everything she needs. I would either rehome the boy you have now or maybe have two cages and keep a baby of the same sex (if there is one) to go with each guinea so they have company. Or you could get your boy neutered and then intro them after the correct time has passed Last edited by Cornish Cavies; 10-16-09 at 10:12 am. |

OK. But did you take the male too? That's still intentionally breeding if he's been in the cage with the female the whole time you've had them. The mother could get pregnant again without you even knowing! Please find the male a new home or let him live seperatly from the female. |

*shakes head How could anyone be so irrisponsible to a inocent sweet animal? It's just wrong. PLEASE sepperate the boar from the sow immediatly!! If you can't tell this site is very anti-breeding and it seems that all you care about is not the health of the babies and mother but instead the looks of them. This is unbelevable! |

I have read ALOT about breeding guinea pigs. The color of the pregnant piggie is orange and white. No I didnt take the male, the prev. owner told me. And I wont find the boy a new home! They are not separated, but another cage is being built. I am not irresponsible, I wanted the expiriance in breeding a guinea pig and i am keeping the babies. I am not breeding again. Its not wrong to breed a guinea pig once for knowledge, and if I'm giving the babies a wonderful home. They do have a great home, the best food, an enormous cage, toys, treats, everything they want! Please understand that.... I just bred her once... But why defend myself when Everyone already has their minds set that I'm irresponsible and horrible? |

They are defending your guinea pig's health... not trying to attack you really. It is dangerous for the guinea pigs to be bread and it's sad that so many are being killed because they do not have homes. Even hobby breeders, people who breed their animals only for knowledge or the fun of seeing babies, add to the problem because now some homeless animals are less likely to get a home because you have made more animals. |
