Re: http://www.savetoby.com/

Let me note something that might open a few minds (but PLEASE dont try and fight me over this...)
The guy is obviously trying to get money, he probably doesnt even have that rabbit, but that isnt what Im really trying to say...
Even if he DID have the rabbit and possibly DID eat it, dont try and yell at him for something many cultures do.

Im guessing this person might be a white male college student, so he was just trying to make money, but I know a few people who do eat rabbits.
My neighbors. They breed and eat rabbits. They are from mexico, but there are people (FFA, MEAT rabbits) who do eat rabbits.

Constantly, whever I search up 'guinea pigs' and look at photos, I see photos from Peru of cooked up piggers.

My point? He was only trying to rip of animal lovers and get people pissed.

Re: http://www.savetoby.com/

There is a diffrence between a wild rabbit and a tame pet rabbit . personally I would never eat rabbit , duck , moose etc.. and breeding rabbits to eat is just as bad . My co worker is from peru and yes they do eat guinea pigs , hince why she didnt pig sit for me during christmas ! Either way it is a sick joke and very wrong . Animal lovers are some of the most vournable people , how can you resist a cute cuddley face and try not to help , just be carefull thats all and make sure if you do send people or organizations money ,make sure its for a good cause .

Re: http://www.savetoby.com/

As the person who started this thread a long, long time ago .... in a galaxy far, far away ....

I don't think the issue concerning the website www.savetoby.com is about the morality of eating rabbits vs. eating other kinds of meat. From my perspective, the issue is about the emotional blackmail and out-and-out fraud this individual is perpetuating. I know that there is no rabbit in dire peril of being eaten; however, I think it's a pretty sick and twisted way of getting attention and profiting from it.

I see no difference in this type of fraud from the hoax of selling senior citizens shares in copper mines for $13.99 and then sending them a few american pennies as the result of their "investment." It's fraud. And fraud is wrong and illegal.

Perhaps the people who contributed to this cause are naive or stupid and should have known better. I think, however, that they are simple very compassionate people who have been taken advantage of. And I think it should be stopped, whether poor "Toby" is actually in any danger or not.

Wow, I haven't been to that site in months! It's like The Darwin Awards, only with a cute, fluffy bunny. I see now that they have a book, too. At least they've gotten rid of the bogus paypal icon.

I think that the people who would buy that book get the joke. I doubt that anyone who really thinks that they can save a rabbit whose head has been on the chopping block since 1994 would buy this book. I mean, after the first deadline, Toby was still alive. Second deadline? Toby's still breathing. To me, this is just a really stupid joke that's gone on for way too long. Anyone with half a brain would spring for James Lilek's Gallery Of Regrettable Food (vols I & II). I seriously don't think that the site was made for the people who take them seriously, other than to get poorly written threats in their guestbook. I mean, they can't afford to live, yet they can afford to keep up a website that uses more bandwidth than cbs.com? Just that alone is enough logic to keep people from taking them seriously.

It's sort of like www.bonsaikittens.com. You can't actually buy anything there, and the boys probably pay more to publish their books than they're making in selling them. It's just a supreme example of if you simply ignore it, it will probably go away. Unfortunately, some people's senses of humor are such that they find something as absurd as this laughable in a positive way, without realizing how distasteful it really is.
