My female guinea pig is ready to give birth . She already has milk . When is she going to give birth ? In how many hours ? She has 3 babies . |

Did she have the babies already? Milk doesn't start to come until it gets stimulated from eating the afterbirth. Do you know how many days she's been pregnant for? Pregnancies last for 59-72 days. It's hard to tell how many they have if you didnt get an ultrasound (unless you did, I'm not trying to assume), it may feel like 3 but she could have more. I thought we were going to have 2 when my pig was pregnant but ended up with 3. Also, just incase, the birth process should go smoothly. Anything other then that means mther or the babies are in trouble. If she makes any loud squealing or there is a lot of blood, rush to a vet fast. Other then that, mother will know what to do, try not to bother her, she'll pull out her babies and clean them. I'd wait until after the babies are all clean to pick them up. Guinea Pig Lynx can give you a lot more information on the pregnancy and birth. Good Luck! |

A sow's milk doesn't come in til hours after she gives birth because eating the afterbirth triggers it. But gestation is 59 to 73 days. We can't tell you the exact time. If you can feel the babies in her stomach, it shouldn't be long. If she has complications, you need to rush her to a vet. You're a breeder, right? Shouldn't you know this? |

Breeders don't necessarily breed for money (although, 9 times out of ten they do), it's the fact that they are letting animals breed and adding to the very crowded population. |

Are you sure it's milk? Like mentioned before, it doesnt come until they eat the after birth and then it stimulates them to start lactating. Has she already had a litter? Pigs can get pregnant basically right after they give birth, and that is extremely hard on their bodies. |

With your breeding experience, why the questions? Oh, and better yet, why did you post the question here in the kitchen? Seems like something that one would post in Medical & Veterinary. I mean, unless one wanted a debate. |

It's not just an over-population thing, it's health issues a well. Guinea Pigs are very fragile little creatures. A lot of things can go wrong if they get pregnant and you can lose all your pigs in an instant if something does arise. When you breed them, you put them in danger, no matter how well you think you're taking care of them. Essentially, nobody can decide what happens to a life other then our creator, we cannot save something that's not for us to decide. |

That's horrible! I don't believe private breeders are any better than pet shops and mills. Nobody who breeds guinea pigs and can come on here and lie about it deserves respect. If you breed them, then stop asking for help because you already know how to do it!!! Just please stop breeding those poor animals! One or more of your sows could die in the process of giving birth. Since you seem to have so many pregnant ones, the 20% chance of dying during labor sort of increases the chance that at least one could die. Why should we help you by giving out info so you can just use that info to continue breeding piggies? Oh yeah: You already know what you asked. You said you're a breeder. You said you breed them, with the act of breeding making you a breeder. |

i know that she will get pregnant after birth ! but only if is a male in the cage ! she is with 5 girls and one boy neutered ! i have 3 males ,2 neutered and one for mating! i have 2 cages the big one and the small one ! the big is for all my females and 1 male neutered and the small one has i male neutered and one not-neutered . I would never torture my pigs by mating them all the time ! |

You are breeding which is adding to the over population problem. And there is no such thing of " breeding thoughtfully" |
