No it's not Americans. It's humans doing exactly what you are doing. |

It doesn't matter which countries are overpopulated. Let's say someone from Canada* was planning to adopt a shelter guinea pig from the USA but then it dies because the Canadian* changed his/her mind and got a pig from a local breeder. * I have nothing against Canadians. This was just an example |

Ok, seriously, I normally don't post in these heated argument sections because i'm pretty passionate about my opinions and am not to diplomatic. So if I come off as rude, its just who I am. There are no shelters in Greece? There are no shelters in Greece? In quick google search I found charities based out of Canada and England that are there to help the current issues with dog and cat over population. It seems your countries laws on animal care are attrocious. I bet you any money, any money at all that if you contact Attica Veterinary Society for Small Animals they will have guinea pigs up who need homes. Greek Animal Rescue Home Page TAILS FROM GREECE RESCUE These people could probley help you find guinea pigs for adoption. These are organizations that arent even in your country who are helping with the issues of pet control there. What does that say? Work on lobbying your local goverment to bring in spay/neuter programs for all animals that are pets. Seriously.. you can find a pet just takes effort. The same effort you should give to them when caring for them. |

Not every problem comes from America. America is only 233 years old. They come from humans all over the globe. And as we all know, "to err is human." Very nice research, Milkingit. |

Why would you subject your pig to that? That takes a terrible toll on their bodies! You really are contributing to the overpopulation problem. |

Wow, I never thought that someone would be so gutsy to start and continue an arguement like this on here. It's very well known people's stance on breeding here! My poor little Miley is most definitely the product of a backyard breeder like you! She is a sickly little pig with tons of issues. If I hadn't adopted her from the humane society she would have crossed Rainbrow Bridge by now!! I just don't see why people breed! |

Oh my... Yes, there are classified adds in greece, or are you telling me you guys do not have the internet or newspapers? And by you saying it's life...No. Just no. You're not god as you like to claim, you're FORCING these poor animals to breed. These animals deserve happiness after all they've been through in the petstores, and you're making them baby machines. How cruel. I walked into a petstore today because we really needed bedding, and in the cage was way too young guinea pigs to be sold. My sister wanted to hold one. (We changed clothes and washes our hands a ton before we touched our piggies) The poor thing had eye crusties and a running nose, and it did not have a hidey. We know that guinea pig will likely die. So I would like to ask you, you got those animals from a pet store, correct? If they had guinea pigs when you bought them, other people bought some too. Guinea pigs are widely considered starter pets. And they are abandoned when the children lose interest. Those guinea pig could have been taken care of by your friends. But you created more lives. What about those lives that were already there? What was wrong with those? And, since there is so little guinea pigs there are probably very little experienced vets. You're sentencing those innocent creatures a nightmare life where they produce babies, and dying from lack of basic care. |

Eliana - You've made it clear you haven't the slightest hesitation when it comes to breeding your pigs, and that you have been able to justify doing so because you either don't understand or don't care what you're doing. Perhaps at some point in the future, you'll have gained some experience and insight from which you'll be able to understand that breeding, particularly for the selfish reasons you're doing it, is an inexcusable cruelty. Perhaps you'll be able to think beyond the cute little babies you give to your family and friends and understand that these are sentient beings whose lives are defined wholly by you and your choices for them. If you have questions, ask them, but please do us the courtesy of not lying and not intentionally starting arguments about something you know good and well isn't acceptable here. |

Take your guinea pig to the vet, and if you care about them take your un-neutered male with you and have him snipped (neutered) so that you aren't risking the deaths of your females. How would you like to be tossed in a cage with a male just so he could mate with you. God made the world so that the guinea pigs were out in the wild where they could run from those trying to mate with them. When you put them in a cage you limit the female's movement thus forcing her to allow it. I only bring up the God statement because the original poster did. Now in the wild they lived in a huge group... that is because birds of prey, predators on the ground, and humans ate them. Breeding is a way to sustain population. In your home they should not have to worry about sustaining their population. Would you let your fourteen year old child mate to have kids just because nature allows it? I think not. |

You are truly irresponsible. For one thing, if you need to come to a pro adoption site to help out with your litters, YOU should not be breeding. If there is any responsible breeders in the world, they should at least know EVERYTHING about the animal. They should know the diet inside and out, and should have means to get to a very experienced vet if needed. Seems like you are doing this as a hobby, not for the betterment of the breed. You should stop torturing these poor animals. (Just a note, I don't believe in breeding anymore. This site has changed me a lot. I just think that if someone is going to go ahead and do it they should at least know the basic information about the animal, unlike this person.I really dislike this person's actions but I don't think I can change this breeder's mind. :/) |

May I ask why you joined an anti breeding site and are posting about breeding your guiinea pigs. It really makes no sense. Are you trying to upset all of us other memebers. Last edited by wigglesgiggles1; 07-11-09 at 07:34 pm. |
