Did you get Peanut when he was 3 weeks old? If he's only 7 or 8 weeks now (I got my estimated age from your gallery photos, so I could be wrong, but they were posted like the end of June or so), and you say you didn't notice he was male until about a week ago... Why didn't you separate then? You can use your upper level grids and whatever extra materials you might have or are able to find to give Peanut his own space. *edited again to add* In the meantime, separate him now using anything you can since it will only be temporary. Even if it's a petstore cage. Having him in a smaller space temporarily will be better than increasing the chance that Poppy does get pregnant by him if it's really only a possibility that she already is. If she's only been with the male for a week and a half, how do you know she's pregnant? |

I just checked out your blog, in which you mention Poppy is just over a year old. One of the comments discusses the probability on losing your poor little girl. I just wanted to reiterate and stress that if you haven't already done so, please get the little boy out of the cage with Poppy now, and we can all cross our fingers that she isn't pregnant. Giving the timelines I've been able to see and the lack of answers when I asked if you did, I'm not sure if you did a proper quarantine. Information on that was left in your comments on your profile page (as well as check and recheck the gender, but mistakes happen), so I hope you followed it. |

I agree with Ly, even a cavy savvy person can not tell if a pig is pregnant for at least 3 or 4 weeks. |

Please share your info with us after you have seen the vet on Monday. If Poppy is a year to over a year and this is a first pregnancy it could be very dangerous for her. Her age is very important to share with the vet. |

Yes, how was Poppy's vet visit? Please let us know. It's been a week! |

I believe you. Accidents happen, and if your not completely sure you can ask the vet if she can eat the sprouts. |

I have a question I am not in any way meaning to start an argument I am just very curious I know the forum doesn't encourage petstores (I completely agree) and breeding (I also agree as I've seen some horrible situations of this) but is it that breeding at all is bad even if not on purpose? Not so much as I don't want people to adopt and rescue because I saved my two male chinchillas and was lied to about their sex being told one was a spayed female and yes he is a boy which I found out after I had bought them. It wasn't that I didn't pay attention but seeing where they were I wanted to take them regardless because this rescue lady had several dogs that barked a baby that cried and tons of other animals in a small space and pretty dirty cages. I was wondering if everyone meant we don't need to breed NOW AT ALL because of all those that need to be rescued but if the day comes where that is over won't we have to at some point? Not like breeders who overbreed of course but at least a little because of the need for a large gene pool so the species is healthy as a future wildlife preservationist I just want to know some opinons on that considering some species have to be bred so they don't go extinct. |

As for the other thing breeding is never gonna fully stop no matter how bad we want it too. Plus there are the "accidental" litters also. |

| Yeah I tried to look actually when I thought she may not have been spayed but they wont let me flip them over or hold them up they got really nervous so I didnt do it. But yes I do understand that mine were actually breeders which is why they are soft and beautiful but from their original attitudes they were obviously just used for breeding which makes me mad |

It really gets me mad when people come over here expressing how they made a mistake and then expect people to tell them that it is ok. The mods in this forum do not harrass but rather protect what they believe in is like me going to a forum for breeders and I start talk about how bad breeding.Even when according to my believes I would be doing the right thing they have the right to ban me from their website. Is the same thing if you are not the one giving the money to support such a great website then dont expect them to changetheir morals because you made a mistake. Now that I vented I also would like to know how you piggy is . |

Intentional breeding is bad. Esp. if someone is "just breeding one litter". There is no reason at all for that. The pet overpopulation problem is in great part due to that backyard breeder mentality. Then that one litter goes one to each have a litter and so forth. |
