I was on Kijiji today, being curious if there's any piggies in my town, and I came across an ad from someone who obviously is working for a petstore and has pictures of guinea pigs in disgusting conditions. Basically, everything that is wrong is being done. Wire floors, tanks, bedding that looks an awful lot like cedar, salt lick, I don't see hay, some look very unhealthy, etc. It really disturbed me, and I don't know if there's anything I could do or say? I was looking around on the site and I don't think I can report it... I kind of just want to flip out on this person, but it's obviously important to be tactful. I don't know if I can post the ad or not? Maybe it could do some good if enough people wrote kind responses with the aim to educate? I'm kind of lost with what to do about it. Thanks everyone |

It certainly can't hurt to send an email with links to places that explain why all the things they're doing is wrong. After you've been able to calm down a bit, you could even print things out and take them there and talk to them in person. You're right - anything you say needs to be non-threatening if it's going to be received at all, so take a deep breath and put together your thoughts and then decide what you're going to do. Remember that you aren't likely to change the pet store staff's mind about selling the animals but it's not going to hurt to try to better the conditions of the animals in their care. Good luck! |
