No one should force an animal to do something they never gave consent for. When animals are forced into something without their consent (ex. Dog fighting, tattoos, piercings, animal testing), it's considered animal abuse. And since they CAN'T give consent, people shouldn't do those things. Usually, you can't force a man to make fighting (like boxing) his career unless he really wants it. Some people just force their animals into something without even thinking about the animal's feelings. I hope that made sense. EDIT: And the owner of the tattooed (SP?) cat should've just given the cat a pretty collar if he wanted his cat to be 'pretty' for him. Last edited by Kipsie; 05-28-09 at 06:47 pm. |

When I first read the title to the post I was like cool..getting a tattoo of your pet on your body! When I opened...Geez.. That poor kitty. That is so horrible. I wouldnt mind having a tattoo on me of my kitty or guinea pig but never would I put a defenseless animal through that. |

I just feel sorry for the animals that have to go through with it.That's inhumane to make an animal suffer like that. It's not good for the heath neighter. Things like this should be reported to the ASPCA to save the animals that don't have a dumb tatoo on them yet. |

Oh my! When you first said tattoo, I was thinking when some people tattoo animals with like an address or something (I think that's what they do) and I was thinking, well, quite a few people do that don't they (I personally wouldn't) but then I open the picture and well...I'm speechless! That's disgusting! |

I can't summon the words....there's just no excuse in the world. We had someone here in PA brought up on charges for piercing their cat and trying to sell the cat on ebay. People like that don't belong walking the face of the earth. I don't get it |

I am a tattoo artist and have been tattooing professionally for about 7 years. I have had several people come and ask me to tattoo their hairless cats and i obviously refused to do it. One woman got very angry about the fact that i wouldn't do it and said that it wasn't my decision and who was i to pass judgement on her!! She was pretty crazy, even crazier she claimed that her vet told her he would put the cat under and let me use his veterinary facility to do the tattoo! My old jerky boss actually considered doing it and wanted to photograph the session, lets just say i don't work with anymore he was all about the money and publicity good or bad. |

That's the kind of thing that really gets my knickers in a twist-- I have 5 tattoos, with plans for more, and I KNOW how much that hurts (working on one on my ribs right now, which is one of the worst places, pain wise). But I'm also against piercing babies' ears, etc. |

I completely agree with you! Both with Ribs being painful (oh god is it ever!) and the baby ear piercing. If your child wants their ears peirced, let them do it on their own! I'm glad my mother didn't do it to me and I won't do it to my children either. |

I think people who want to tatue their pets should get the tatues themselves, pets can't choose if they want the pain or not, and i'm almost certain if they could, they would choose not. |

I am shocked and saddened. I thought the title meant an id in the ear - wrong. |

I too at first thought you meant the human getting a tattoo but the animal itself is just plain sick and abusive. What is wrong with these people? |

I can't believe someone would even want to do that to their pet. Seeing this has totally put me into a bad mood. This is really unbelievable and disgusting. |

It is probably painful enough for us to get a tattoo, let alone an animal who has thinner skin than we do! And the poor animal cannot say stop or anything like that, so it just has to take it!! Really, what IS wrong with people?? |

Most vets around here have a policy whereby they tattoo a small area (smaller than an australian 5c piece) inside their ear to show that they have been spayed/nuetered. They do this when the animal is under anesthetic for the spay or nueter. This I find acceptable. Both my dogs had it, and as they were asleep for their spay/nueter they felt absolutely no pain. It is a great tool that helps when animals are rehomed etc and even when a vet is simply treating an animal - they can tell by looking at their ear if they have been spayed (particularly helpful in females where it is often hard to tell). Tattoos over the body though - for no medical reason whatsoever, and purely for looks is disgusting and something I think is awful. It seems a rising theme for humans to cosmetically change their pets for their own pleasure. In no way does it benefit the animal, and it is often harmful and painful for them. |

That's what I was thinking of! When I wrote my post, I was like well I know some people do it for some reason along the lines of medical things or address or something! But like I said, this is gross! |

I don't see why it's completely horrifying... weird and probably a bad idea, yes, but horrifying? The cat is anesthetized for the procedure and (hopefully) got pain meds afterward. So there was only the unnecessary risk of anesthesia for an elective procedure. It's not like for people where we have to be awake the whole time (which is because tatooists are not doctors or something, yes?) I don't really see a difference between this and the spay tattoo except that the spay one was done while the animal was under for something else and was much quicker (no increased risk of anesthesia). It's certainly better than other 'cosmetic' or elective surguries that maim the animal (debarking, declawing) and/or cause hugely increased rick or infection and a lot of discomfort (ear cropping, 'rubber band' method tail docking). This is purely superficial. The cat won't care. And no one is going to be able to steal that cat now. Its got a tacky tatoo over its entire chest. |

The risk of putting a small animal under anesthesia is huge, they could never wake up! I am a tattooist and i find the whole tattooing animals to be very wrong. The animal could also get an infection from the tattoo that in the end could be lethal (just like any other infection). You can't tell a cat how to properly care for a tattoo, like hey cat don't get any poop in your tattoo! Are u kidding me most people don't properly care for their tattoos and they actually understand english. I don't belive in de-clawing, de-barking or any other surgery that is NOT neccesary for there are many risks involved. So maybe "horrifying" is not the right term, completely selfish would be a better one. I don't think any of us would like it if we woke up one morning covered in tattoos!! |

Any kind of cosmetic alteration of animals is an abhorent and selfish thing to do. I would consider this to be too extreme. Something like putting nail polish made specifically for pets on a dog is not cosmetic alteration IMO, because it is temporary, and harmless since the polish is made to be dog safe. Now, people shouldn't put human nail polish on their dog, they should look for and seek out the pet friendly non toxic kind. I also think that it could be considered ok for people with white poodles to dye them temporarily, if they use a non toxic dog safe vegetable based dye (no artificial colors). This tattoo is permanent, as is tail docking and ear cropping. A better idea would be a non toxic, pet safe natural temporary tattoo like the kind they make for humans, only this would be dog safe. |
