| I pass this store frequently as it I have to in order to get to the parking garage where my car is at. It always has a horrible stench reeking from it. I got a peek inside a few times when they had their doors open, and it was just cages and cages of chickens, quails, peacocks...and any other type of poultry you can imagine...and yesterday, I got another look inside as I was walking by....and I saw two huge rabbit ears poking out of the cage bars. I feel so bad for those rabbits, awaiting their unfortunate fates..... And today...walking by, about 8 huge black trash bags stretched full with dead animals, just bagged up and dumped awaiting the trash truck. Its appauling. The main purposes that this store serves is Santeria as well as "fresh" food. Is there anything that can be done about this? Who knows what other types of poor animals they have in that hell of a store. |

The police aren't going to do anything. You need to call the SPCA and the Health Department. If you can get other people to report them, more complaints may get them to act faster. |

God I'd sneak in there and give them all their freedom. I so hate hearing about these so bad unfortunate stories of these helpless beautiful innocent animals. I hate this world for its cruelty. I think people are worse than animals at times especially so in this case. The police won't do anything, you need to contact the spca now. |

That is absolute cruelty and neglect. Call the ASPCA right away. Today i went to a small, family owned Pet store. I went to get a container for my dog's food to be put in and i happened to take a peek at their small animals. I was horrified at what i saw, it was disgusting and so sad. There were two guinea pigs in one cage that was only about 1x1 grids, there was barely any bedding, they had no water and the water bottle was very little, no air circulation, it was all very warm in their, there was no huts or anything, and also no hay. In another guinea pig "cage" there was only one, he was in the way back laying down, his eyes were almost closed, they had gunk all over them, i tapped on the glass a little bit to maybe see if he was just sleeping but he didn't open his eyes any more. Both cages also had food that was just nuts, seeds, and those colored bits, no pellets. I was sickened by that store and will never go there again. |

Yes, yikes is right! It's in Orange, CT and is called "Pet Supplies Plus." There's also another disgusting one here in Milford and it's a very small family owned pet store called "Purr-fect Pets" and i went there to go get Oxbow because no other stores in my area carries Oxbow and it's hot and smelly in there. They have a closed in little area where they are smelly birds in with a small lonely guinea pig (the guinea pig looked like it was in a small 10 gallon fish aquarium) and other rodents. I felt so bad for the guinea pig, is there anything i could possibly do about this? Pet Supplies Plus is a nice store when it comes to supplies, but their animal care is horrific. Purr-fect Pets is very dirty, small, and hot. There was a very bad odor/stench in the store that smelled like filthy animals and cages that haven't been cleaned in a while. |

Wow! I am in Manchester and the Pet Supplies Plus here is awesome! The keep their rabbits and guinea pigs in big cages (not tanks) and the other small animals are all kept really clean and neat. They don't breed their own their though. They only sell small animals from local people. They have parakeets and fish also but not very much for animals for sale. More or less it is more for supplies. The pet stores in general around me are really neat and clean, take good care of their animals and even give them fresh veggies and good supply of hay! Guess we are pretty lucky around here. Some of these pet store stories are just awful! |

That's wonderful that the pet stores around you are decent. At least our Petcos' around here are clean. The Pet Supplies Plus in Orange is clean but they do not take care of their animals properly. I agree, some of them are just awful! |

Well,I spoke with the ASPCA, and I have unfortunately have come to the conclusion that they are seriously understaffed. I called and sent e-mails and just got some auto response email in return. I am going to try to stay on top of it though. The ASPCA being short staffed here is distressing me very much. Today, I was walking central park, and was lucky to avoid carriage horses untill when I began to make my way home. I saw 3 lame horses (obvious limping, and theses horses should NOT have been working like this!), 2 of the 3 lame horses were also underweight. One horse (looked like a Halflinger) was in particularly bad condition. I reported them, and seemed to get a pathetic "we know, we know...." response. |
