Sick jokes on animals

While I was at work today in my university library some of the staff found a feeder mouse that was painted orange and pink. We have no idea who left him/her there or why they did it. The poor little thing is trying to clean himself and I'm afraid he is going to hurt/poison himself by doing so. We called the animal science department and they don't want to take him in to help it. How terrible is that.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

It’s terrible, but not uncommon, sadly.

I hate to admit this publicly, but I watch The Real World on MTV. This season, they had a prank involving a rat and I was horrified. The poor thing was kept in the same small container that I used to bring a hamster home once and then later ONLY when I was cleaning my Bettas’ regular tanks. It seemed like they kept him or her for a few days (without any food or water that I could see) and returned the rat to the pet store when they were done with it.

I actually have a draft letter on my computer for the producers about this, but it seemed kind of shrill when I wrote it immediately after the show. Maybe it’s time for an edit.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

The security guard who found the mouse has decided to keep him, which I'm happy about. I was wondering though if anyone knows of a good website that has things about diet/housing for them. Right now he is giving it some veggies and cheerios (but I really don't think mice should have cheerios). Also, do you think the bin cages that you can make for hamsters would be suitable for a mouse?

Re: Sick jokes on animals

how sad, some people....i just fell so angry sometimes.

Also, i saw on the news that these two boys had completely wrapped their cat in bubble wrap, and it was helplessly rolling around on the floor, meowing and crying, and the whole time they were laughing their heads off. i hate the world.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

It seems like a bin cage for hamsters would be fine for a mouse, I can't think of a reason why it would not be.
I think Oxbow has a mouse pellet food.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

I know walmart carries a brand of rat and mouse pellets and they need to be housed in a tank on aspen bedding because they can chew through plastic in a matter of hours. they should also have a wheel and chew toys also for their teeth. It is also ok to give them cheerios as a treat or any kind of ceral as treats only cause they'll get fat from them. Hope this helps.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

Here are some treat ideas for you

Green vegetables (small amounts)
-Leafy greens
-Broccoli
Crunchy Fruits (not citrus)
-Apples
-Celery
-Carrots
Garden Peas
Mealworms
-(bring out your mouse's inner hunter)
Cooked pasta
-Wormlike pastas (spaghetti)
Cereal

The full diet should contain about 14% protein and 4 to 5% fat for growth.

Dont forget they like to burrow.

Hope this helps?

You should never, ever buy small animal food from Wal-Mart. They carry low grade, low quality small animal foods. Even the treats they carry are low quality. Hartz and 8-in-1 and the other brands they carry are garbage brands that need to be avoided.

Re: Sick jokes on animals

You really shouldn't buy any pet food at Wal-Mart. Or Target or K-Mart for that matter. All are junk.
