Other cultures?

-Move if in the wrong spot-

I was watching the National Geographic channel and they had an 'Inside' episode about the Inuits in the most northern Alaska.
They're whale hunters, they hunt only Bowhead whales, and only once a year.
Last year, they only killed 56, and considering how much the population has grown, it doesn't affect them.
The whale, as well as the ice, is apart of their culture, and without either, it would be impossible for them to survive the many months of darkness.
They highly respect the Bowhead for this reason.
The whale dies fairly quickly, and they use every part of the whale, except the skull.
After they remove all of the blubber/fat, they push the skull back into the ocean, which provides food/shelter for fish and other animals.

I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of other cultures and their use of animals in this way. Not the cultures that promote animals as garbage, but those who respect the animals.

Re: Other cultures?

When an animal is hunted for food and to provide all that is required to live, well that animal is in a way sacred. Your not going to go out and kill mindlessly. It is vulgar to say but meat lasts longer on the hoof.

It is only when animals are killed in sport that I find it distasteful.

I used to hunt deer every year and we would use nearly every part of the carcass. From meat to sinew, I used that animal.

Yet at the same time, I abhor people who hunt only for the thrill or the size of the rack.

That poor animal was once living, lets show it some respect huh?

Re: Other cultures?

Sarah Palin should take lessons from her constituency.
