One more thing, Adorable: If you're here for a reason other than to nitpick everything I say, then what do you propose be done for this rabbit and guinea pig? Do you have a better solution than sending the shelter as many emails as possible with reasons what they're doing is a problem, and asking that the animals be separated for their own health and safety?

Adorable, I find it infinitely flattering that you can't seem to keep yourself away from my threads. You asked me a direct question and I answered. How is that arguing? Unless, you really didn’t care to hear an answer and then I’d have wonder what your point was in asking, other than to give you another opportunity to say how I care sooooo much more about arguing than rabbits and guinea pigs.

Something worked, because as I said, they replied that they are going to figure out a way to adopt the bunny and pig out to a single home (together) without actually housing them in the same cage, and the listings have been removed, at least temporarily. Thank you again to everybody who sent emails and helped me in this endeavor.

HRS actually recommends housing them together for the most part, despite possible cross contamination, so the rabbit.org link doesn't help all the time.

It is odd, and unfortunate that there's conflicting information on the topic. Which is why it was a good thing to get several folks telling the shelter otherwise. I think anyway.

There are less risks to the rabbit than the guinea pigs, unless the pigs are carrying bordatella.

My local humane society, which I've grown to greatly respect, recently had a bonded pair (guinea pig/rabbit). I spoke with the workers there, all of whom I'm close to, and they said that the cavy/bunny pair came in together, and when they tried to separate them both stopped eating and started wasting away. Sometimes these things are just unavoidable.

That's true that some bonded pairs may not be able to be separated, but when a website doesn't discourage pairing guinea pigs and rabbits, the real problem could occur when people think that any guinea pig and rabbit can be housed together. By not clarifying, this website is sharing harmful information that could be misused, potentially creating more pairs out of ignorance. If there's a pair like the one your local humane society told you about, then it should definitely be treated like a special and rare set of circumstations...not accepted as the norm.

It sounds like the website has since been updated, thanks to Paula and other fellow members who politely shared their guinea pig/rabbit wisdom. Well done!
