Re: Iditarod coverage on Discovery Channel being advertised on Animal Planet...and ot

Cesar's methods are not harsh if you're thinking like a dog. Victoria baby talks the dogs and most of her clients are still struggling with her methods long after she leaves. Cesar will take a problem dog if the dog cannot be helped in it's particular environment and exchanges it for one that would suit them better. Then he goes on to find a better home for that dog. Dog's are not furry little people, that belief is what gets so many people in trouble and dogs put out on the streets. I find Cesar's Shhh, better than Victoria's (aw good good puuuuppy). Just because it works for kids, doesn't mean that it's appropriate for dogs. Pack leader is day 1 stuff. Period!

Re: Iditarod coverage on Discovery Channel being advertised on Animal Planet...and ot

Bizzie - as Katie said, it isn't THAT you disagree with things here, it's HOW. This is generally a very animal friendly, animal rights forum, and you come here and say, "the iditerod ROCKS. man and beast vs nature. thats good stuff." Nothing more, like you later added, "Actually I like the race. My daughter and I watched it last year then she did a report on it. We actually have some extended family who have been really into dog sledding. Raising, racing and all that and live in Alaska."

Do you see how the former comment, by itself as you originally left it, is likely to do nothing other than infuriate a group of people who are all about seeing animals treated humanely, fairly, and with respect? You're surely entitled to your opinion, but I think it's a lot more likely to be respected and valued if you present it in a way that's respectful and courteous.

I think if you'd just give more thought to the things you type up here, you're going to infuriate people a lot less and be respected a great deal more.

Sophisticavy - fair enough. We all post things we don't think through and I think we're all guilty at one point or another of posting something either too early in the morning or too late at night. And of course, everyone's had something come out and be interpreted in a way that wasn't intended.

I disagree with you about Cesar Milan, BrainDeadBuster. Victoria Stillwell, IMO, is WAY better. Read the tenth post down on this thread by Tserisa. I have watched both Cesar's and Victoria's shows; and Cesar, I can't explain it, but the way he does it is very.....forceful. I don't like it.
Victoria Stillwell does not baby talk them. Her methods work. I have used them. I tried some of what Cesar does before, and guess what? They didn't work.

Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree then. Nothing seems forceful about Cesar's methods to me, and I have trained my cattle dog very similarly to this. I think dogs get him better, and if it didn't work for you maybe you already didn't expect it to, or maybe you just weren't being calm assertive, . Sorry, that was just a little dog whisperer humor.

Umm I came up with a toysRUs site when I clicked your link....

BDB: Check out victoria Stillwells website and their Cearsar threads. They have plenty of threads on him.

I did go back to that thread and read some of the articles. Lets just say that I haven't completely changed my mind yet, but I am starting to understand what your saying. I did not realize all of this was going on in the background of The Dog Whisperer. I will continue to investigate this until I formulate my own opinion, but I think you may be right.
