Left on my Stoop!

I got up today and look outside only to see a small cage with three Guinea pigs inside . I feel so sorry for these girls, they had seeds for food and no hay, and a tiny petstore cage. I'm calling my vet now and scheduling an appointment, since I don't know how long they were outside in the cold and sleet and the last thing I want to deal with is an upper respiratory infection.
I don't understand how anyone could just drop off an animal like it's nothing.

I have a thread in the kitchen about a similar incident with me. Good luck to the three girls!

Re: Left on my Stoop!

Some people make me so angry. I would love nothing more than to take people who do this and dump THEM somewhere.

Good luck with your piggies and I hope all turns out well.

Re: Left on my Stoop!

Took all three of them to the vet yesterday, and they have a clean bill of health. I switched them to oxbow pellets, and they love hay, lots and lots of hay!

Re: Left on my Stoop!

Animal Lover, they must have known you take care of guineas...
I have a few nasty things to say about whomever dumped them in the cold, but they ignorantly must have thought you were the right place to dump them.
Sigh, I'm losing faith in the average person.

Re: Left on my Stoop!

I think it is sickening how people just leave animals like it is a toy. They are living breathing animals! If they couldn't take care of them, they could go to the shelter, or at least ASK if someone knew what to do. But at least they ended up in the right hands, and will recieve the best. Good Luck.

Re: Left on my Stoop!

I'm fed up with people who go around buying animals probably from petco or petsmart and probably buy a cage from there then dump it on someone!

I guess they knew that I'm the crazy animal lady down the block that wouldn't mind . Oh well, at least they're in good hands now, and aren't cramped in a 4 square foot cage anymore. I always have some room in my heart (and house) for a few more abandoned pets.

Talking Re: Left on my Stoop!

They're doing wonderful. They still aren't sure if they like the person feeding them , but they're getting used to me. . Once I find the cord to my camera I'll post a few pics. Oh, I was wondering, how long do you think it'll take for them to get used to me? I take them out twice a day (once for lap time, and another time for free roam), but they still run away when I come near.

Re: Left on my Stoop!

That is absolutely HORRIBLE to do to a poor animal . I can't imagine ever doing to any animal at all, never mind an animal that could get sick in such cold weather.

I hope they'll be alright.

Re: Left on my Stoop!

I'm glad to hear that the piggies are now in good hands. You have a good heart when it comes to piggies. The person who left them on your stoop must have known that. I also can't wait to see pictures.

Wow, that's crazy. Do you rescue pigs?... And somehow they know you do?

Actually, this is my first piggie rescue. I have rescued many other needy critters though. Currently I have:

3 red eared slider turtles (Alex, Big Mama, and Hudina)
2 Musk turtles ( Baby and Distructo Dude )
4 green tree frogs ( frogger, ribb, bit, spider frog)
1 cocatiel (Herculies)
3 Dogs (Woof Woof, Alex, and my baby girl Isis)
1 Cat (Kitty Hendrix)
3 Guinea piggies ( Daisy, Piggers, and Rascal)

Goodness, after typing all that, I'm worn out !
But, like you said, I guess that they knew that I love helping a pet in distress.
