Question Question about this website

Is this website actaully Pro-PETA? I saw the disclaimer in this section of the forum that mentioned PETA and was wondering if the makers of this site and the majority of its members support this organization?

Re: Question about this website

I believe that this webiste isn't directly pro-PETA but many of us support PETA or are members. It says in the disclaimer that this is "pro-animal welfare organization" including PETA, but I don't think we are directly pro-PETA. I think it means that we support animal welfare organizations such as PETA.

Re: Question about this website

I believe the owner of the site supports PETA but the rest of us have varying views on them.

We simply don't allow Peta bashing (or bashing of other large animal/world welfare organizations. The bashing is usually counterproductive, born of ignorance and is usually started by someone simply trying to cause an argument (trolling).

If someone does have issue with Peta all we ask is that they provide information about another organization that does as much as Peta manages to do to get laws changed to protect animals. If there is no other organization that matches up them we don't want to hear about the problems people may have with Peta.

We understand that Peta is viewed as extremist at times but until someone gets off their butt to start a "warmer, fuzzier" organization to protect animals, that gets as much done, we have to be grateful to Peta for leading this fight.

Re: Question about this website

ah. One reason I asked is because Peta is not a animal "welfare" organization. Its an animal rights organization. The HSUS is an animal welfare organization, but unfortunately they are starting to be controlled by the PETA mindset and are lobbying for more extremist-like changes.

Re: Question about this website

Who determines what is "bashing"? I'm not a fan of PETA due to the acts of terrorism linked to their organization and because of their misleading propaganda that is strays away from scientific fact.

What if someone mentioned the USDA or the ASPCA as another organization thats helping animals? The USDA has thousands of rules dictating the humane treatment of animals and the ASPCA does a great deal to control cruelty

Re: Question about this website

Whatever you want to call it they are still the one we can mainly thank for helping animals the most.

If what Peta does upsets you it would probably be best for you to avoid the topic. You don't have to support or even like/agree with Peta to belong here. There are many people that don't support them who are members of this site.

Re: Question about this website

I didn't mean to offend you. I am just trying to gauge how much tolerance there is here for those who are anti-peta. I am pro-welfare, pro-omnivorous diet and enjoy debating. I was just asking this question to see if the website is mainly fanatics or if there are a fair amount people who are open to other ideas.

Re: Question about this website

I am pro-animal welfare, yet I am not a vegan or vegetarian, though I was a vegitarian for 4 years. I do not agree with PETA either (mainly for the reasons you cited plus a few more) but I just ignore the fact that the forum is pro-PETA. Like Piggyluv said, it's not so much of a site that always says "Go PETA!" as it is a place that supports organazations that attempt to better the lives of animals, no matter how extreme they might be.

With that said, outside of the PETA film on Youtube about mills that supply to PetSmart ("PetSmart's Dirty Little Secret") I have never seen an threads that talk about PETA that much. Most of the time I see people talk about the Humane Society or ASPCA, and even then, not much.

So no worries, unless you make a stink about it, no one else really does.

Re: Question about this website

Thanks. I was just wondering how common it is in this atmosphere. I saw the vegetarian forum and thought that Peta may be a common topic as well.

Re: Question about this website

Although I do not 100% support PETA, I do respect the things that they have done and continue to do for animals. I think the problem that has happened with PETA is that they have a few members that are far too extreme for most common people. But along with those extreme things that they have done, it gets things changed or changes the way people think about animals.

Ly&pigs is a supporter of PETA and I think she brought up a good point on another discussion of PETA. She mentioned something about "all organizations have extreme members", citing the political parties as an example. I think that put PETA in more of a perspective for me and made me realize that she is right in that most organzations that those "extremist" people as members.

I do have to say that they have done way more for animals than most of us will ever do and I can respect that. Sometimes it takes those extreme things to actually get people to notice that something is wrong or needs to be changed.

I think you have the wrong person because I've never said those things. I've also never stated my opinions on PETA. I've only ever stated the rules about no PETA bashing.

Re: Question about this website

Sorry I was wrong. Susan is the one I was thinking of and I found the discussion where all of it is. I was thinking you (ly&pigs) for some reason. Again I am sorry and next time I will look to make sure who said what.

Re: Question about this website

I believe many people on this site are either PETA supporters, or members. For the most part, I have seen that this is a PETA supporting website.
