Petsmart taking a step in the right direction Hi everyone, I haven't been around much. I had to rehome my pigs and coming here has been a bit depressing. Anyhow; I saw something on Goosemoose (a rescue friendly rat site) that I had to report here. Petsmart is getting rid of some of their "bad" (horrible!) food and products and starting to sell Oxbow. I know, I know, I didn't believe it either. Petsmart.com Yup, they really are. However, I will STILL not shop there because they sell animals, but at the very least maybe the non-pigsavy people will start feeding their small animals the proper food without even realizing it!

Re: Petsmart taking a step in the right direction It is kind of funny because I too was wondering the same thing after I just got done reading Daily Veterinary News, July 30th addition. It stated that PetSmart had donated equipment and supplies to the Wisconsin Humane Society which just bought out and SHUT DOWN on of the nations largest dog breeding facilities (puppymill)-WOOHOOOOO way to go WHS!! Here is the link for anyone interested: Humane society buys, closes large puppy mill - - DVM Maybe this is a sign of good things to come with Petsmart...one can hope can't they? ![]()

Re: Petsmart taking a step in the right direction You know, I don't know if they are selling Oxbow in the stores. I would think they would, but who knows. I don't shop there and wouldn't even know about it if I wouldn't have seen the thread on the other site. Too bad they don't go all rescue friendly, stop selling animals and start selling C&C cages.

Re: Petsmart taking a step in the right direction I just placed an order from them online for some dog related items that I couldn't find anywhere else. So that must be really new because I didn't see oxbow in the small animal section. But did you see the price? $12.99 for a 5lb bag of cavy cuisine?????? It's only $9-$10 at most in smaller petstores in my area. I thought they made their way by being able to be cheaper on items, than the smaller stores. That said. I work for a vet with an oxbow account so I just order my supplies for the cavies through there. I refuse to shop in the smaller petstores in my area, not only because of the horrible conditions of the smaller pets, but because of the sale of obvious puppy mill puppies for outragous prices. Especially for the so called designer mixed breed ones. I normally avoid petsmart as well. I agree with their rescue only adoptions for dogs and cats, but never could understand the small pets that they improperly house and care for that they sell. Not to mention as a dog rescue person I'm horribly offended by the product selection for dogs. I can buy a housecoat and slippers for my dog, but not a decent traffic lead. So I have found it difficult, and try to aviod petsmart. But where else can you beat their price on bedding and for replacing a water bottle? I hope this means they are taking a step in the right direction all together. I would love to see rescue small pets availalbe right along with the cats and dogs.

Re: Petsmart taking a step in the right direction Deedee - they do that to make themself look good and get good PR. Meanwhile they still support pet mills for birds and small animals/exotics. I clicked on the oxbow products and they all say backordered for 2-4 weeks??

Re: Petsmart taking a step in the right direction The petco in South Dakota and some petsmarts and petcos in Nebraska already sell Oxbow, but it is so much more expensive than the other food that nobody in their right mind will buy it. That is the problem with petstores too, they sell the products at such a huge profit margin that nobody will buy it.
