I have read about 3 different posts about things they have experienced at a petsmart. Being a current employee at petsmart this really hurts me. Even though I know the places we get our animals from is a horrible breeding place, I take the utmost pride in how I take care of the animals there. I'm sorry you had a bad experience when you went, just please, don't just blame it on all petsmarts. The absolute only reason I still work there is because i don't trust anyone else to care for the animals other than me. I'm sorry if I offend anyone , it just really hurts me, I pretty much take it personally and I know anyone else that works there and feels the same way I do would.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart If you don't trust anyone to care for the animals but you, do you buy them all? They come from sorrowful conditions, to a pet store for a few days and then to any old home that buys them. They are probably the biggest reason in the US that there are so many homeless small animals. There are more than 3 different posts, have a look at these - http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...r-threads.html. Perhaps it hurts more because you see directly what happens, where they come from and where they go and it's hit a nerve. Nobody here will be applauding them until they stop selling animals.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart I don't see why you should be hurt? You admit that your company buys from a place that supports animal cruelty, and you are not in every Petsmart in the world. They both finance and are the authors of many forms of cruelty. If you're going to work at a corporation, it's unrealistic of you to take criticism of that corporation personally, especially when you admit that it's true.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart This website is pro-adoption, anti-breeder and anti-petstore (except stores which just sell supplies ). You aren't going to find people saying positive things about Petsmart here.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart In the end it doesn't matter how well you or anyone take care of the particular animals in any store. You are still working for a company that promotes and supports animal cruelty and breeding - which only contributes to a vast problem of overpopulation that's already out of control.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart I don't really understand why you are taking criticisms of the company as personal insults. Lets look at the facts - the reasons WHY we are anti-petsmart.... 1) They sell animals. Thousands of animals are killed or abandoned every year because of overpopulation. Petsmart encourages breeding and impulse buying - making the problem worse. 2) Not only do they get animals from breeders, they get them from the truly abhorent breeders, renowned for horrendous cruelty and neglect. Petsmart funds this abuse - they are responsible for it continuing. 3) All Petsmart stores sell crap goods - from "food" that has so little nutritional value you would be better off feeding the box, to tiny cages, dangerous running wheels, toxic bedding and abusive "training" tools. 4) There have been MANY cases of Petsmart staff being downright uncaring and neglectful, or giving out poor care advice etc. This has happened over and over, in many different stores. Why? Perhaps because the staff are not adequately trained in animal care, welfare etc. Or perhaps because Petsmart will not allow them a proper education because then the staff would realise what they were doing wrong! Then of course there is the risk of losing your job if you don't comply - you can't decide not to sell an animal to a total moron, or selling dangerous products. The number of animals from Petsmart that have turned out to be sick, pregnant or mis-sexed is phenomenal - this certainly doesn't indicate staff who know or care what they are doing. None of this is aimed at you personally. No one has said "YOU take poor care of animals" or "We don't like you" or anything like that. We are against the whole concept of breeding, selling animals in petstores, impulse buying, poor care etc - which is why we are against Petsmart. And as I said, no matter how great you may be, there are other staff in other stores who either give out false info because they know no better, or just don't give a damn. So there we go. Petsmart IS bad. Don't take it personally.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart I see where all of you are coming from, I guess I shouldn't take it personally. I am in fact looking for a new job right now because I will be moving in about 2 months. I'm hoping I could be a kennel person at a local shelter. Sorry for this post, I was just a little upset last night and I shouldn't have taken it so personally. I do believe petsmart as a whole is a horrible corporation, I just guess that it's just my store who actually cares because my manager is always emailing the "boss" complaining about the condition of animals we get. I do care I just feel like I should or no one else will.... Thank you all for helping me realize it's not me, it's the company.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart Your Manager won't last much longer if he/she continues to complain. They blacklist those types of people in that corporation just like Petco does too. Plus the big bosses don't care until the news gets a hold of the bad stuff and then they still don't really care, they just care becuase they were busted and have to explain why they support and promote animal cruelty.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart Orange County also has countless small animals. Your store is contributing that. The OC Shelters all have guinea pigs and other small critters right now. I'm sure most of them came from pet stores originally.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart My little fur baby came to me as a gift for my birthday from PetCo. And I can assure you I love him VERY much and would not even think of hurting or abandoning him. I love Frankie tons. I have read about how terrible the 'mills' that supply the pet stores raise these poor little animals. I shudder to think what my little Frankie came from. Also I have to say I don't like that he was given to me as a surprise for my birthday, as wonderful as it was, what if I was allergic? What if I just didn't feel I could handle him? I would've felt horrible. But luckily that's not the case and he is with me to stay. I wish my cousins had gotten me in on it ahead of time and searched a piggie out from a shelter or rescue instead but I don't think they realize what a nasty cruel industry these mills are. Does it make me a bad person because of where Frankie came from? Does it make my cousins bad kids? I don't like what these pet stores do, but just some questions. I know if I had been in on it, where my guinea pig came from would've NOT been from PetCo.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart I also wanted to add that since I've had him I've had to replace everything that Frankie 'came' with from the pet store. His feed was incorrect for his stage of growth, (the pet store sent my family with him with alfalfa and alfalfa based pellets and the pellets also had seed type things mixed in with them) his cage was way too small I spent a lot of money and time to get what I need so he can not just merely exist but be loved and thriving as well. And I have spent a lot of time on research that often falls on deaf ears of my family who can be kind of cold about loving care of pets, 'they're just animals' but since he's come to ME, I'm doing everything for him that I can to shine through the darkness of pet abandonment. It is very frustrating because I am told I'm spending too much money on him and things like that. I'm doing it anyway because I love him. And I am going to be encouraging friends who want piggies to talk to experienced cavy owners and seek out a rescue in their area rather than support the problems that come from pet stores. I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts about my situation and if you can appreciate that I love him and am learning and doing the right things.

Re: People Bashing Petsmart Hi Theresa Just wanted to say don't beat yourself up about owning a pet store piggie. Most of us on here have had piggies and other pets from stores and breeders in the past, simply because like you we didn't know any better. The important thing is to learn from it. If, like you have said, you no longer want to support pet stores and breeding mills etc, and would prefer to adopt then that is great. Assuming from now on you adopt instead of buy your pets you will be doing the right thing. None of us can change the mistakes of the past, we can just choose to do the right thing next time round. It sounds like you are doing great with your new buddy now, so I'm sure he'll be happy and healthy. Well done!
