bunnies and piggies in the same tank in petstore

I walked into a local petstore where I go to school, and of course went to check out the animals they had for sale. They had 3 large aquarium type tanks. One had tons and tons and tonsss of hamsters. The next had rabbits but they were all very young. The 3rd had the larger adult rabbits. My friend and I were looking at the baby rabbits when I noticed that one of the rabbits looked an awful lot like a guinea pig. so I waited for it to come out of the igloo and sure enough there were TWO guinea pigs living with the younger rabbits. so my friend asked the guy at the register if guinea pigs were allowed to live with rabbits. his response was "they're fine for now but they might fight when they're older" and then I said "well, they aren't supposed to live together..." and he gave me a dirty look and said "well its just too hard, we dont have enough room for a separate spot for the guinea pigs" and then we left.

I wanted to say something more...but when I get into heated situations my mind goes blank. Are there any laws/regulations against this? and if so, what can I do to make a change? Because I think about those poor piggies every day since then, and I don't have the guts to go tell the people they need to change it but I do want to tell someone...so what can I do??

There are no laws/regulations against guinea pigs and rabbits living together, it is simply a highly unhealthy environment for the animals. You could use some of the information from this site to speak with the owner and see if he is willing to listen. If not, I'd let him know you'll be encouraging all your friends, family, schoolmates, etc. to avoid buying from his business until he learns to properly care for his animals (or even better, until he stops selling animals at all!).

What´s the problem when rabbits and piggies live together? I have 11 piggies and 5 rabbits together since years and I never had a problem... In Germany I think every pet stores always have rabbits and gunnies together.
