Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

Tangerine Honduran Milksnake (illegal in Georgia) PLEASE flag this ad. A Craigslister just posted an ad warning people about him. He is a breeder and uses phony adoption ads to get people to come to his home where he persuades you to purchase one of his snakes that he has bred. This person was bitten pretty badly by one of the snakes at this man's home:

Definitely flag-worthy, RainKindle. I noticed one has already been removed. I flagged the others.

Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

Alright, everyone, I know this may seem cliche or alarmist; however, there have already been a few ads today on my local Craigslist that have been removed where people think it's funny to post ads requesting black cats for Halloween.

Whether these people are serious or just trying to get a reaction from others, keep your eyes open and flag them so that they can be removed and hopefully the ads where people are seriously looking to re-home a beloved pet can remain visible and not get lost in the shuffle.

Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

Okay, this was one is a bit "off". The woman says she is "re-homing" this Mastiff puppy because her temperament makes her unsuitable for breeding. Yet she claims she isn't a breeder and volunteers for a Mastiff rescue:

Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

Pit Bull puppies:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/854925836.html

Rottweiler puppy (she is a breeder who posted similar ad yesterday that was removed):
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/854935616.html

5-week old Weimaraner puppies (second ad in the same day):
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/854940553.html

Pit Bull puppies:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/855025111.html

This one is questionable, simply because it's obvious this person's animal became impregnated. Not sure if they're technically a breeder since they claim the puppies are free:

Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

Rottweiler breeder again:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/855823037.html

Suspicious German Shepherd ad. In the photo there are several food bowls on the deck, even though the ad claims this dog had just given birth to a litter before she got her. Either way, the dog is obviously not well cared for. She's skin and bones:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/855849923.html

Pit Bull puppies:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/855894963.html

Macaws for $500 each:

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/855998425.html

Great Dane puppy for $400:

Same ad for the Macaws, only this time the price is not listed:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/856207904.html

And oh look. This looks like the Rottweiler breeder again:

Benna, looks like you are doing a good job on that rottweiler person. They are complaining about being flagged.
Nice work!

Nice work!
The breeders always complain when they've been spotted. Last night I was checking the ads and one breeder who was selling Weimaraner puppies yesterday (they posted three ads in the same day) posted a rather explicit photograph and had a few choice words to say about "the stupid animal lovers".

It's good to know that several people in my area from various shelters also flag questionable ads. If only breeders would stop abusing CL and stop coming back to spam the ad pages with their venomous messages because their ads are removed, maybe some pets that really do need a loving home would be adopted.

Re: Flag CraigsList Breeder Ads

My sister just bought a rabbit that needed a new home from craigslist, so they aren't all bad, they were fighting with the other rabbits (male aggression over the female) so just be careful what you flag, make sure its only the cruel ones, selling feeders, the babies are there, someone has to buy them and love them, or they'll stay with their horrible mean owner.

Breeders are also prohibited on craigslist regardless if they are nice people.

I am very careful when flagging ads, but any breeder (regardless of whether or not their facilities are clean and they are well-mannered folks) that is selling their animals on Craigslist are violating the terms of use and potentially ruining the chances of an animal who really needs to be adopted of finding a forever home.

When I check the ads every day, the majority of legitimate adoptable ads come from local shelters such as animal control and the Humane Society. They make up roughly 30% of the daily ads in the pets section of my local Craigslist. I would say roughly 15% are people who are in dire straits and need to re-home a beloved family pet. The rest of the ads are soliciting services for pet owners (mobile grooming, pet-sitting, etc.), animal accessories for sale or trade and ads placed by breeders.

Breeders think they are clever. They claim "small adoption/re-homing fees apply. Call for details" in their ads, yet whenever someone calls them they are asking $300+ dollars and talk in-depth about their newest litter. Some ads say, "mother and father on site". That's another cue that a person is a breeder.

And "buying" an animal from a breeder does not help the animal. It helps the breeder. They turned a profit. What helps the animal is flagging their irresponsible handlers' ads when they try and sneak past the rules at CL. Following through with the deal does not benefit the animals.
