Re: A Thought ...

Hi, Teresa. Any chance you can take the ! off the end of my name? (registration required names of 5 digits or longer) Anyway...

Yes, a very calm and reasoned set of arguments. Sounds like you are all in agreement that adopting is a good idea. Seems like the difficulty comes from the mechanics of adoption. Since there is no set way to run a rescue, there are sure to be some rescues with methods and techniques that don't seem acceptable. I tend to think I'd feel the same about intrusive questions. You can see what the point of them is (will you be committed long term; can you afford medical care if needed). I'm fairly confident 99% of the rescues I'm familiar with would have been happy to adopt to you, Susan. I think Teresa's technique of steering less than perfect adopters to shelters is a good alternative. Many rescuers feel a special responsibility to the pigs that come under their care and feel they need to try their best to ensure the pig finds its way into a stable, responsible, and loving home.

Re: A Thought ...

Hey, cool!
By the way, your board is very very zippy. Makes me wonder about my board. I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet though.

Re: A Thought ...

Well, half the members of my board are actually one person and the other half haven't bothered to activate their accounts (I may clean things up one day).

Re: A Thought ...

Good one.

I went through and deleted the people who hadn't activated about a week ago. I saw we were getting close to 1000 and really wanted to have a cleaner list of members. That dropped us down by around 50 or so, but membership has been growing at a pretty steady pace.

Re: A Thought ...

I admit, my "venomous wrath" remark was not the most polite ... and I apologize. I always forget how hard it is to convey "tongue-in-cheek" type remarks and sarcasm through email ... or computer postings. I do apologize - my remark was uncalled for ... and again, my inability to express myself in the way I would like comes shining through.

I don't mind debating or discussing differences of opinion ... I just shy away from the thought of being responsible for an argument of the magnitude that I have seen created by other posts. This forum has been so enjoyable for me (my husband teases me about the amount of time I spend on it) and I have learned so much - I don't want to do/say anything that would label me a "troll" or otherwise suggest that I am an incompetent/irresponsible cavy owner.

I really appreciate the time you all have taken to not only read my sometimes exceedingly long posts, but to also respond. And I hope you will forgive my recent rudeness.

Re: A Thought ...

Aw gee, now you're making me cry.

I just shy away from the thought of being responsible for an argument of the magnitude that I have seen created by other posts.

You need to change your perspective. When they are good debates/discussions, those are the posts to be proud of!! I think the label "troll" is applied too quickly these days. And of course we (and I) would never come close to even entertaining the possibility that you are anything but a great cavy slave.

So, carry on....

I must say that I have greatly enjoyed reading all the posts on this thread!! Props to Susan 9608 and CavySpirit in actually managing to have a delightful and well educated discussion. I have seriously enjoyed reading this. I hope to see more posts with as much class and education as this one. Very nice discussion.
