Truth hurts, there was no need to cry. It would be a good idea to get your mum on the forum, because I can't even understand your posts because of your grammar and spelling

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

I definately agree with getting her mom on here to explore this forum. A piggie's life just isn't something to be tampered with.

A troll is a person that comes onto a message board to cause trouble.

I may have been wrong but the way "IloveBabe" was jumping from one "hot topic" to another (ie, buying from a pet store, inadequate housing, sick pig and no vet care, breeding...) and posting so bizarrely can indicate the presence of a troll.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

Thanks for the definition!! I was at a total loss as to what it could mean. I have never ever heard that term used before. Is it a popular term? am I just out of the loop here or what?

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

Okay, I hate to say this, but so many people have been telling you this, ilovebabe, and I have told you in the other thread. Proper punctuation, PLEASE. Proper spelling, such as VERY, not vary. Proper capitalization, you are going to be banned if you do not follow the rules. That is definately one of my pet peeves, and the moderators hate it too. So do many people on this forum. Go in your other post, I posted the forum posting rules in there. Also, proper punctuation and such is Not Capitalizing Every Word In The Sentence, As You Did In Your Other Post In The Other Thread. Please read the rules over again, and please follow them. It is hard to understand your posts.

It's never ok to breed. Never. There are so many cavies that are homeless.

I still can't believe you are considering that are your age, whenever you don't even know much about them! Or so it seems.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

I think ilovebabe has a lot of growing up and maturing to do. I've been looking cavies for a month now. It's not just something you jump into. If he/she can't afford a bigger cage, how can he/she afford babies? It makes no sense and show utter ignorance.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

Ilovebabe, what you are doing is selfish, ignorant, irresponsible, and, quite frankly, just dumb. Do you know about Lethals? Abnormalities? How much a pregnant sow can cost you? You keep saying 'Oh I love them I love them' with, as Rubypiggy said, very bad grammar, I might add, and you are willing to risk your sows life? The life of baby cavies? Are you not listening to what we are saying? And please explain how you can afford a possible several hundred dollars for a pregnant pig, but you can't afford to buy a forty dollar C&C cage.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

I can't believe my eyes. Ilovebabe, your pig is paying the price for your selfish wants. And what you said about loving your pigs as if they were your own children is not true. If you really loved the pigs, you would do what is BEST for them and not hurt them as you are about to do. If you had a young child, would you force them to produce some grandbabies for you just because you think babies are cute too? A life is a life. Thank about it.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

You need a better vet too. I suspect your male piggie is still sick, but you found a vet that doesn't know squat about cavies.

Re: Vary Sick Looking Piggy

I agree with you Rabbitsncavyluv - Ilovebabe needs to find a better vet, at least for a second opinion.

Ilovebabe- let me tell you what happened to one of my pigs when I went to an incompetent vet. My husband and I got a new pig about 2 years ago, and for the first week or so, we kept her quarantined in a separate cage. Some how, she caught one of her feet in the bars of the cage, which crushed several bones in her foot and snapped one of the bones in her leg. We took her to the vet, had her x-rayed, and her leg was set in a cast for 2 weeks. During her cast removal, however, a small piece of the adhesive lining got caught on her skin and pulled it, creating a small skin tear. Our vet, who is completely wonderful, gave us a solution for cleaning the wound and suggested keeping her on towels or fleece, rather than bedding, to help avoid infection. My vet then went out of town.

Three or four days later, we noticed our pig's (Miss Piggy) foot looking very black. I'm a nurse, and I suspected gangrene, so we called the vet. A temp. vet who was filling in told me that was simply a scab on the foot and to just keep cleaning it. The next day, her foot was swollen, black, hard, and missing it's toes. We rushed her to the vet, terrified she'd have to have her foot amputated. Our regular vet (Dr. L) was still out of town, so the temp vet looked at her. He wasn't comfortable making the final decision on surgery, so he gave us some antibiotics and pain medications ... both to be injected into the pig 3 times a day. She didn't get any better, so the day after that, we took her back, and fortunately, my regular vet was back. He told us to throw out that medicine (and he reimbursed us for the cost) and gave us some different antibiotics. Over the next three days, her foot returned to it's normal size and pinked up again. But on that third day, we found her dead in her cage. We took her to the vet for an autopsy, and it was discovered that her kidneys were damanged, most likely from the incorrect anti-biotic prescribed by that temp vet.

It never occurred to us, at least not at the time, that some vets weren't competent to treat guinea pigs. We figured that they are fairly common pets, so we assumed any vet could take care of them. This is what happens when you're ill-prepared to assume responsibility for an animal. Of course, we learned from that mistake and now refuse to see anyone but our regular vet, but our poor Miss Piggy suffered needlessly and eventually died due to our negligence. We didn't do enough research before taking on a guinea pig ... so we weren't aware.

I'm afraid this may be the same mistake you are making. If the place you got your piggy from suggested that he is sick, I would believe them and get a second opinion from a rodent expert. Otherwise, you may risk losing not only your new piggy but your other pig as well.

I know you've gotten lots of messages and posts and lots and lots of advice, and I know you are reluctant to follow any of the advice given to you. I know you want to breed your pigs and that you're anxious to start interacting with them right away. But from one animal lover to another, I urge you to put a lot of thought and research into your decisions regarding your pigs. Remember, they are totally dependent on you to meet every single one of their needs. Please do what's best for them.
