When I told my friend I had goten a guinea pig she was like
"Oh my god they are so cute so what you do is now that you have a boy guinea pig you get a girl one and make them have babies!"
I was like your kidding me right?
and shes like then babies are so cute!
I was like did you know that there are many problems that could have came up, your guinea pig could have died.
And then she was like but she didn't. And my other friend said ya my hamster didn't die either when it had babies.

I just wanted to blow up on them

There are a lot of people who don't know what they should about guiena pigs. Even some vets don't know to much about guinea pigs. I would suggest educating your friend. Print off pages from here, or give her this websidte's address.

Unfortunately, that response is very common. I've heard it (in one form, or another) on several occasions. It really is frustrating!

Good for you for being very conscientious and learning the proper way to take care of guinea pigs. We may not be able to get the message through to some folks (I know that for a fact because I've beat head against the wall trying), but on the other hand - you will find some people willing to listen and change the way they think.

I had a close friend at work that was talking about maybe getting a guinea pig some time in the future. After I have let her know what work it takes to feed, clean cages, take care of them properly, she has decided that it's too much work. Even though she won't get one, I felt good knowing I helped her find that out before she got one.

I know how you feel. It seems like everytime I educate one person, another person I know buys a puppy, or I hear about someone whose 15 year-old cat has had yet ANOTHER litter. I got in a fight with a breeder on facebook because she was wondering why 2 out of 3 babies her sow had were lethals.

Just remember that every step in the right direction counts. To date, besides educating myself, I've made two C&C cages for other ppl, so I know I've made the lives of at least five pigs better all thanks to this site.
