I got my piggies at our county fair from a breeder in August. I didn't know at the time and now I know these both are big no no's! Any way, at the fair this year I have three choices. I can show them at the fair and provide veggies, hay, etc. and help educate people about C&C cages and how breeding is bad. I can leave them home alone for a week without guranteeed food, water, veggies, and hay for a week. Or I can keep them in our camper without air conditioning in two card board boxes. My hands are tied and I could use your opinions/choices. If I do choose to show them they will be out 24/7 and I can educate people on them. I could really use your opinions!

Re: 3 options this August What about the option of leaving them at home and finding someone to come over and give them pellets, veggies, hay, and water every day, or taking them to someone's house to be taken care of?

Re: 3 options this August I second Percy's Mom option. Why not have someone else care for them in your abscence?

Re: 3 options this August I agree with the above two posters, I would get someone else to care for them for you.

Re: 3 options this August So are you still going to the fair? I am not understanding why you have to go.

Getting someone in would be the best option, because you can't just leave them with the change they could run out of food/water. That isn't an option. The second choice would be to take them, but that carrys it's risks. |

Re: 3 options this August Might be a good idea to leave them at home as others have suggested and have a stall -without gpigs-with info about what you suggested as well? Best of both worlds!

Re: 3 options this August I have chosen to have one of my neighbours watch over them while I am away. I have to go because I show fancy not meat chickens. We only have like 10 chickens pigeons and ducks. We don't breed them, it's just my dad wants me to have some interview type experiences before I get a job when I get older. To answer your other questions that was just an option because we "may" be able to come home, depending on if we take some or all of our birds. Umm.. the card board box thing was just another option just kind of taking suggstions from family and friends and posting them. The weather will be realitively hot but I could then be there as much as possible to give out a cold water bottle and to try to educate some of the breeders. I have alot of time still but I won't be able to see them and I will be pretty sad about that but if its for the best for them I will let my neighbors help take care of them. The only problem I can possibly see with that is that none of my neighbors have any prior experience with piggies, most go to the fair all week, and I guess if I leave a very very specific directions maybe this will work. With the fair thing I'm not meaning to upset anyone. I got them from a major breeder there when I was not educated at all. I am pretty sure that they have faced the elements because when I purchased them they were being shown without veggies or even a cool waterbottle until I had time to buy them and take them back to our camper. The lady kept them free range in a barn mixed with boys and girls. Thanks for all of your help.
