Angry Breeder in my social studies class

There is this girl in the my class that said how her mom used to breed guinea pigs for awhile i was so upset by this i wanted to hit her. She said how her mom and her would have up to twenty pigs and they "would be like rabbits" and make news one before the could get rid of the old ones. Thankful her mom stopped but i still felt mad about this. I know from this site that it is wrong to breed your animals. Why doesnt someone put it out there, people should know better.

Oh and now i found this looking for information on hairless guinea pigs....god sometime i want to beable to stop them all......XXXXXXX

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

That is why it is our job to get out the news and share with everyone. I know some people from here have care sheets from here and go to petstores and post them up in the stores and etc. We just now have to get out the word and share with everyone the trueness to breeding.

Phew, well kept reading and they closed Aug 1st of this year. At least that is one more breeder out of business.

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

What i don't understand with those people - claim they have blah blah amount of Cavies - is How Do They Afford To Properly Feed And Clean Them Sufficiently?

And i'm sure they'd never get time to spend with All of the cavies so why bother having that many? Its cruel

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

One girl in my class told me her mum breeds piggers. She said one of her pigs was on its 10 litter! She also told me that she thought it was cruel to not let them have babies and when I told her about me getting a new bigger cage for my three she said she had at least 5 or 6 in one cage about 3 foot by 2 foot long!

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

Try to remember that they are just ignorant. If you can, try to give them materials to prove that what you're saying is true- print-outs from this site, perhaps, articles from other sites that detail cavy care. If possible, print out some breeder sites that applaud Cavy Cages (that is, incidentally, how I first found this site) so they don't think you are 'just an animal rights nut and don't know what you are talking about.' If you approach it as a 'gee, I've had such dramatic results from caring for my piggies this way, and shoot, my vet told me about all the horrible things (such as death, dystocia, etc.) that can happen to piggies that are back-bred... well, who is your source?' and then give them the materials, then maybe you can get them to see the light.

You can't blame a person (much) for ignorance, but you sure can blame them for ignoring the truth.

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

I have to say that these type of 'breeders' are disgusting. It's more sentencing a pig to a life of slavery and forced reproduction, its so sad it makes me want to cry. Personally I have 3 pregnant sows and they are rescues. I have two boys but I'd never breed them intentionally.

I agree that someone with that many pigs would not beable to take proper care of them all. I have 5 and its a BIG job to take care of them.

These people arent just ignorant they're stupid, what kind of animal would be healthy and happy if it was bred from continually its entire life? NONE.

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

Oh yeah, thats awfull! Poor pigs! In my opinion each breeder should be controlled and he schould have to make a test. But well, that's only a dream. Every child can breed, even if it hasn't got ANY idea of the pigs. And then they are surprised, when theire pigs have more and more babys...
But 20pigs are all in all not that much. I know breeders who have over 100pigs. I do think that you can take care for 20 pigs (well not if they have babys all the time...). I have 12 pigs myself and I take much time for every single one! By the way, I'm NOT breading. They have a large cage, about 12m2, I don't now how much this is in feet and inch or whatever, your system is quite complicated for strangers
Please excuse my poor english....

Annina

You are "putting it across" in a very argumentative manner. This forum is pro rescue/anti breeding. If you are looking for a site that supports breeding then there are many to chose from. This is not one of them. If you wish to post here you will respect our views and abide by our rules.

Re: Breeder in my social studies class

Do an internet search. You will find them in the same manner you found this site. We do not advertise probreeding sites here as that would be no different then advertising for the breeders.
