Angry Petco

Near me there is a petco they sell guinea pigs is much as it enrages me my parents by supplies there and I've been there many times the last time I was there I looked around for the piggies I couldn't find them. After a while i found them in small cages two of them were in a aquarium. It was terrible but the pigs have adption signs on their cages with their name, sex, age and all that. No I'm not even thinking of getting one but I have no idea what to say it's confusing to me I think they are lying or something to make themselves look all great but they still sell animals so their basically not helping at all . But I was on petfinder and on the shelter's page they said thier cavies are either at a foster home or stationed at petcos! This confuses me would I be supporting petstores if I adopted one?

Re: Petco

I'm not sure, it depends who gets the money. Try to contact the rescue direcltly if you are interested in adopting them.

Re: Petco

Check to see that the adoption costs are the same as in the shelter, and ask who makes the profit. Pet stores will often hold shelter animals up for adoption even though the money earned from their sale goes directly to the rescue because they are hoping to make money off of the supplies that are usually purchased at the same time. (They make little or no profit off of the animals they sell anyway, and it probably saves them money in the long run.) Plus, it makes the pet store look better and seem like they actually care about the overpopulation problem (). So long as you aren't buying any supplies and the money goes to the rescue, you aren't supporting the pet store at all. I've adopted guinea pigs from shelters that ran their services through a Petsmart, and although I was bothered by the fact initially, I was assured that the purchase supported the shelter 100% and none of the profit went to the Petsmart.
