Question Pregnant Guinnea Pig

I have a pregnant guinnea pig, and she is at day 59 of gestation today. She is acting really funny. She isn't wanting to move around very much or eat. She is drinking though. She keeps licking herself, and is pushing all of her bedding to one side of the cage. Does this mean she is in labor? And how soon will she be having her babies if so? Thanks!

Re: Pregnant Guinnea Pig

She will have them when she has them. You just have to wait. She's probably just big and uncomfortable. How do you know she is at day 59? Are you a breeder or did you purposely breed this pig?

If she isn't moving much, or lethargic she may be going toxic. You have to keep a close eye on her. Is there a smell?

Re: Pregnant Guinnea Pig

Here are some important links on guinea pig breeding/reproduction:

Guinea Lynx :: Breeding
Guinea Lynx :: Reproduction
http://www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm

If she continues to go without eating and doesn't produce any babies, I would get in touch with a competent exotics vet right away.

Re: Pregnant Guinnea Pig

Good luck! I got a pregnant female from a pet store who is now huge! (that was before I found this site). I've learned a lot here and hope you can find help!
