Okay guys. Now, I know that a big no-no is buying piggies from petstores. But todays my birthday. We went in to get some stuff and I saw this baby and he's SOOO cute. So I got him. He's a 3 month old black and white abyssinian. And his name is Xombie. Sorry to be such a let down... but he seems perfectly healthy and I already love him... ![]()

| Re: New Baby I don't understand what YOUR birthday has to do with ruining his mother's life further. That is really selfish and superficial. Why even come on here and post such nonsense if you KNOW what you did was crappy? What is wrong with you? Futhermore, Quote:

Re: New Baby Blah, blah, blah. Excuses... excuses. Whatever, none of what you are saying changes the fact that you sentenced another pig to death by your selfish needs to get a pig as soon as possible because (of all reasons) it was OBVIOUSLY you knew it was a poor decision at the time as WELL as a poor decision to even post this as GPC is pro-rescue at all costs. Haha, you tell me to get my facts straight before I say something to you, however, you IGNORE facts and lead yourself in a world of fantasy in order to defend making a decision you CLEARLY knew was a bad one. When you admit what you did was wrong and acknowledge the consequences, maybe you will get some pity out of me. Until then, keep your immature wailing to yourself.

Re: New Baby Okay. How will he die? Come on.. give me something. Because all I hear from you are antagonizing insults. Stop acting like an uppity brat. You know nothing of the situation. So until my completely healthy guinea pig dies.. I believe I am the correct one in this particular scenario. Kisses

Re: New Baby Because when you buy a pig from a pet store, you are taking the life of a pig you could have rescued. Many pigs just die in shelters and foster homes because no one takes them on. One reason of this is because people choose to take the 'easy way out' and purchase an animal. By that, you basically end the life of a pig you could have adopted but you purchased instead. This argument has been explained and explained over and over in this forum. Please look it up. And why do you say completely healthy? Did you take your pig to the vet to get the scope? I didn't remember you saying that. Again, take a look around, you wiill learn that pigs hide illness very well, especially if you aren't very versed in guinea pigs. And, by the way, telling people they are using insults and calling names when they are the ones, in fact, doing such behavior, is called projecting.

Re: New Baby Hey Engimatic, Well, I'm just going to start off by saying that I'm not sure that Piggiesinpa's response was necessarily as kindly put as it could have been ( however, we all speak harshly or bluntly about things we firmly beleive ), but they are trying to make a very good point. Second, I do not by any means want to discourage you or talk down to you. I'm sure getting your new piggie was exciting and filled to the brim with good intentions. Getting a new animal to love and care for IS exciting, and you SHOULD be able to share that with other animal lovers, without being judged. With all that said, this website is openly and loudly against petstores, breeders, and the like. Knowing this, the response you got was to be somewhat expected. Perhaps it wasn't the most calmly written post, but it was understandable. I, as well as almost every other poster that I have come across on this site, are avid advicates of NO petstore animals. I'm sure you know the reasons, and I'm not going to give a speech on that. If you want more information, you can PM me. But, what I do want to say, to you and to whoever else reads this post is ,what's done is done. The piggie is tucked away safely at your home and is in your, no doubt, excellent care. For this piggie, he was given a second chance. Sadly, there are thousands of other piggies hurting in the same way you saw this piggie hurting. And now that you have advocated petstores, breeding, and animal mills, there is just room for one more piggie to get hurt. I know you meant well, I have NO doubt! I'm not attacking your character or intelligence. Just know that, even though it feels like you're doing a good thing at the time, you are sending a message to that petstore and to its supplier. You're effectively saying, "I support you. I will give you my money and I will buy your product." That money is not a good thing! Instead of helping, you now gave that petstore/supplier/breeder EXTRA money to CONTINUE doing a terrible, horrible thing. THIS is why so you got the response you did. You are effectively supporting people who treat animals inhumanely, and cruely. Who treat them like mere inatimate objects. And that IS angering! So, like I said, I know you meant well. And for this piggie, you are probably going to do it a world of good! But next time, before you jump in to save that one piggie sitting in front of you, imagine that to save that one piggie, you may very well be killing a hundred other piggies. And that, is a hard pill to swallow. On a happier note, I'd love to see pigtures of your new piggie! I hope he is adjusting well! Good luck! Heidi

Re: New Baby EnigmaticCavy, I definitely do not condone what you did, but there's nothing I can do or say to change it. I just wish you had thought about the bigger picture (pet stores need to keep their small cages full in order to keep selling the animals) before you acted on impulse, regardless of whether it was your birthday or not. If you search through this forum, you will find numerous cases of people who bought pigs (and other animals) from pet stores, and they passed away. This is because pigs are shipped in very stressful and horrible situations, which causes mites and other issues to arise. I'm disappointed in your actions, and yes, you did get a piggy instead of a young child getting it, but it's a double-edged sword.I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. I'd like to see pics of the new addition, as you must be so happy about Xombie. Edit: apparently a few of us decided to post at the same time, so I apologize for the reiteration.

Re: New Baby I wouldn't have been so harsh had the person been acting out of ignorance (it happens), however, doing something with the obvious knowledge it is negative I just cannot praise nor condone. It's just one thing to do something without knowing any better and another to do something while knowing it's a poor choice/thing to do.

Re: New Baby Thank you for your kind criticism, and I am known for rash decisions. It is absolutely a double-edged sword, but for piggiesinpa to say I condemned him to death was dissapointing as well. I do love animals and know a great deal about treating them right, And I rarely buy from petshops. But consider it a lesson as opposed to me ruining his mothers life and basically killing him. I didnt intend for hatred brought upon me. But I do understand the dissapointment

Re: New Baby I do apologize, Ive rescued all of my previous pigs save 3 when I was too young, and my cat came from a friend, is there any way to absolve the matter by a truce? We both know what I did was wrong, It wont be done again, Im not as stupid as Im made out to be

Re: New Baby Piggiesinpa, Totally understand. I get worked up and totally speak bluntly about what I believe. I do get it. I just think speaking out of kindness and trying to be encouraging (even when you don't agree. Encouraging doesn't mean you condone, but you can encourage to make smarter and better desicions in the future, or encourage someone to think through their actions, ect.). Many times on this forum I see people speaking harshly or bluntly...which is NOT always a bad thing! But sometimes, I feel its just better to calm down, and try to reason things out with people. Anyways, I hope that makes sense. I am one of the worst when it comes to speaking before really thinking...atleast in person (not so much in writing) but I do understand :-)

Re: New Baby Enginmatic one thing I don't understand why you got your piggie from a pet store when you knew it was wrong I'm not going to flame you but I think you should read T's page on petstores and breeders if you haven't and if you have read it again. It made me cry which is almost impossible to do but I have a soft spot for animals. No offense piggiesinpa but you were a little to harsh I know it's wrong but I think we should do this calmly fighting will get us no where fighting will not help the piggie if he's sick. But it's true just as you said Piggiesinpa that cavies are very good at hiding it if their sick so Enginmatic you should get Xombie to a vet as soon as possible. I'm sorry if I offended anyone I'm just trying to calm everyone down.

I<3MyBabies, thank you and I didn't take your post as to suggest otherwise, ha. I just get frustrated with things that we here at GPC live by and that are openly disobeyed by fellow members (I guess you could say). |

Re: New Baby I don't like some of the overly harsh responses I find on this forum sometimes, but in this case you deserve all you get to be honest. You have readily admitted that despite knowing the facts, you went ahead and bought a pig from a petstore. You can't even claim ignorance, just impatience and immaturity, and I have to say I would question your so called "intelligence". You have clearly completely missed the point of pet store purchases. Not only are you not rescueing, you are creating a demand for pigs from breeders. In your one purchase of that pig, you have told the pet store owner that there is a demand for pigs. They will call their supplier and order another to fill its place. As the pig sold so easily they will probably order more than just one to fill the place. The breeder noticing this will breed more litters as a result. Your purchase has directly contributed to a breeder breeding yet another batch of pigs for profit. A number of those pigs will probably end up in overcrowded rescues, or will end up dieing at the hands of inexperienced owners who will buy them because they are cute. In my opinion you are a cretin.
